3. Player Operation

A few seconds after turning on the DVX-POD, you get a bright main screen. You navigate using the jog switch on the right side.

Picture Viewing

The DVX-POD had no problems displaying all the JPGs we threw at it. It also has a slideshow mode that will display pictures in succession. The delay between images can be set in the settings menu, with the maximum time being ten seconds.

By putting the DVX-POD on the kickstand in this mode, you have a nice live picture frame. Just make sure you leave it plugged into the AC adapter.

Video Playback

The player comes with dozens of sample videos in different formats and bit rates. They all played successfully, which was to be expected. Short clips from the Matrix looked great on the DVX-POD screen. There was no noticeable slowdown or motion artifacting. The output to TV also looked great.

But while the included videos played well, we had less success when we tried to view videos we found on the Internet. We downloaded around forty videos in MPG, WMV and Quicktime formats from Ebaumsworld and NOT5150. These videos played successfully on several of our office computers, but on the DVX-POD only twenty percent of the videos worked. Most of the videos either played audio only with a black screen, or just caused the screen to blink once, kicking you back into the video selection screen. These videos did the same thing when the player was connected to the TV.

Videos can only be deleted using the synchronization software. They cannot be deleted from within the player.

PVR

For easy recording, you can hook up the DVX-POD to a TV or VCR with the included composite cables. The quality is quite good provided you record at the highest quality setting, which can be changed in the settings menu. All video recordings are encoded with the MPEG-4 codec.

Audio Playback

We transferred more than 1 GB of MP3 songs into the DVX-POD. It had no problems playing any of them.
