Report: Windows Phone 7 Launching in 10 Days

- By - Source : Tom's Guide US

We know Microsoft has an event planned for October 11 in London, however, word on the street is Microsoft also has an event planned for the same date in New York City.

London's event is largely believed to be the Windows Phone 7 launch and speculation about the New York City event suggests we could see a simultaneous unveiling in Europe and the United States. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Redmond-based company, along with some help from carrier AT&T, will unveil a line of Windows Phone 7 smartphones scheduled to hit AT&T shelves four weeks after the event.

Citing people familiar with the plans, WSJ reports that the phones will go on sale the week of November 8 and Microsoft and AT&T will offer three handsets at launch; one each from Samsung, LG and HTC. As per previous reports, AT&T will be the exclusive carrier until Microsoft can offer CDMA support in sometime before the end of June, 2011.

soldier37 :
With only snippet previews of the phones you have to search for online, the screens are too small anyway. Also I dont want anything Crapbox(360) on any phone of mine. Give me a 4.5 inch screen droid x,evo, iphone 4 killer please!

I'm surprised there arn't any 4.3 inch phones leaked yet, like you are. I think 3.7 to 4 inches like the nexus, incredible and galaxy S is about the perfect size though, so I don't care too much. 3.5 feels too cramped, while 4.3 feels too large to me for daily use.

I hope this phone will be a success to compete with iPhone and Android. We only have hope for WP7 and WebOS to success so that we have more choice in the future.

So far, WP7 display looks good and new, and not so apps centric. The lack of basic functionality like Copy/Paste/SD Card Support/Multitasking might hold me for a while, but these features will come in the future, so I am willing to wait.

This isn't really news, since we've known for a while now that it would be out on Oct. 11.

There seems to be a October 11 Launch date, and a November 8 Sales date, when you can actually buy one of these devices, in the U.S.A.
I am waiting for a none phone version of one of these devices. When will those be launching ?

Will be waiting till June cause of ATT problems out here. I am hoping Microsoft has made another gaming worthy platform to match the Xbox, Xbox 360, and the best gaming experience ever, Windows.

News to me. I thought that T-Mobile was also going to launch a non-CDMA Win Phone 7 in November. Don't think ATT has a lock.

No apps for WP7, are you kidding? Here are just a few apps (by someone I have no relation to. These definitely aren't my apps):

Stopwatch - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFVLdzPELM8
RSS Reader - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEVgHeHck5I
Videogame News - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bORKEdShylA7

I mean that's just 3 apps right there, all amazing, so fancy, so cool. BUY MY APPS!!!

Even if there's no first party tethering, doesn't necessarily mean there won't be tethering at some point. :)

Not interested at all unless the phones are outrageously cheap (read: free). This OS will be 18 months outdated the instant it is released. We all chastised Apple for a lack of basic features but they were delivered with 3.0 way back in January... of 2009. Now they are on 4.0 and Android is on 2.2. Why would anyone purchase one of these phones given the other options from Apple and Android? Wait, who am I kidding, there are plenty of MS trolls on this site alone who will buy one of these phones.

Who would purchase an iPhone when it didn't even have basic features like MMS? Tons of people. Same deal with Android, initial models were weak, the OS had problems and lacked tons of features, poor app availability, etc.

There will always be early adopters, and as they improve things (as Apple and Android did) they will be able to draw in more people. I probably wouldn't have bought an Android-based phone a year ago. But they're pretty solid now. So if you aren't condemning iPhone and Android, is it fair to condemn WP7 for the same teething issues?

I say bring on more competition - new BB OS, new WebOS devices, and WP7.

Considering he said he wants a Evo, Droid X, iPhone 4 killer I would say he is not an Apple fanboy and just wants competition to these phones.

They forced brand identity onto you, and have now forced you to defend it as a means to defend yourself. They forced you into not being able to judge a device based on its experience. Forever forcing you to only see checklists of features and tech specs.

lol, no, infact the opposite! if you hate the iPhone, I can't see WHY you would like Windows phone! its exactly the same! but with Apple crossed out and Microsoft written in in crayon!

I left Windows Mobile years ago for RIM and will never go back. Tried Android but I don't like having to charge my device 2-3 times a day.

I planned on getting one of these. But since I'd have to wait til June for a VZW phone I'll just go Android.

Nah, he's just a MS hater. He always posts stuff like this everytime an article involves Microsoft. I'm surprised he didn't bragged, yet again, about his rig though.

Spotify has been announced I believe and I am sure that better and more things are to come, it makes me laugh how people are so negative about something before they even get to use it and how before its even out there everyone tries to sway their little circles opinions. Good example of this is win vista which was actually not too bad of an os speaking from a personal computing stand point but yet everyone black balled it so hard it did not have a chance. Anyway, I say good for competition and good from the standpoint that me being a zune owner will tell you that if the os is anything like zune's it is an eye catcher and very easy to use.
