Google has started work on installing its ultra high speed broadband network in Kansas City.
It wasn't long ago that cities around the country were competing to become the pilot city for Google's 1Gbit fiber internet project. However, now that we know which city is getting the high-speed internet service, it's time to start preparations for the network's installation. Google today revealed via the official Google Fiber blog that it's kicking off detail engineering in Kansas City.
"If you’re in Kansas City in the next few weeks, you may notice a few engineers walking around, consulting maps and surveying your street or neighborhood. These engineers are kicking off the next phase of Google Fiber—detail engineering," said Kevin Lo, General Manager, Google Access "There’s still a lot of work to do before we can offer ultra high-speed broadband to Kansas City in early 2012," he continued, before adding that the the detail engineering phase will help Google gather the geographical information it needs to build the network later this year.
So, Kansas City residents, if you see men wandering about, measuring telephone poles or asking 'simple questions' (according to Lo, they might want to know your address), don't freak out. They're the internet fairies and they've come to make sure your internet is faster than ever. Just be sure to verify they work for Google before telling them where you live.

Never thought id be saying this, but damn i wish i lived in kansas...
But if lack of such, then hey, enjoy your optical system of "illusions?" or not so "illusions"
Speeds might actually not be of some interests at times.
I think so because I was lost until you pointed it out. . . I guess I'm too old!
Actually you don't have to live in Kansas, Missouri gets it too.
..... i think you broke my babel fish
Have you considered the possibility that many others got the reference but just didn't think it was funny?
