Samsung Galaxy S Packs Super AMOLED, Android
Samsung's latest Android phone, the Galaxy S, gets previewed at CTIA.
This week at CTIA, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S, an Android smartphone that packs a punch.
Set for launch in the U.S. sometime this year, the device boasts a 4-inch WVGA 800 X 480 Super AMOLED display and a 1GHz processor that handles HD video perfectly. Other features include Android 2.1, a 5-megapixel camera (with auto focus) capable of shooting video at 720p, Bluetooth 3.0, USB 2.0 and WiFi.
Softpedia reports support for 2.5G (GSM/ GPRS/ EDGE): 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz frequencies, as well as for 3G (HSDPA 7.2Mbps, HSUPA 5.76Mbps): 900 / 1900 / 2100 MHz bands.
As far as media is concerned, the Galaxy S comes with either 8GB or 16GB of internal memory (expandable to 32GB via a memory card slot) and supports a wide array of formats including mpeg4, H.264, H.263, H263Sorenson, DivX HD/ XviD, VC-1, MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA, OGG, AMR-NB, WAV, MID, AC3, IMY, FLAC and XMF.
Measuring in at 64.2 x 122.4 x 9.9mm, the device weighs 118g, which is 17g lighter than the iPhone 3GS (135g) and 12g lighter than the Nexus One.

That's great, but is it going to cost $700.00?
The Android army is mobilizing and is gaining strength each day. Prepare for the future.

For retail thats a resonable price for a brand new phone, with a contract it will most likely be only about $200.
I have to say this but it looks very iPhone'esque', just look at it's general structure and main menu. But I suppose we'll see of course as it comes out for real.
Which carrier for this phone? This is the type of phone I would like to have in July 2010 when my contract with AT&T expires. Thanks.
It looks almost exactly like an iPhone. A shame, it's specs are really good!
Another iPhone look alike... When will phones look original again?
If this gets released for Verizon I will crap my pants from pure joy. Super AMOLED = boner.
The amount of video formats supported is definitely a positive here.
I too wonder how much it will cost though.

another law suit for steve to add to his growing pile....
There is nothing wrong with the look of the iphone. It is the lack of good specs and features like multi-tasking, open market place, and other nifty android feats.
Now, when this is available with prepaid (Straighttalk) service, you can sign me up to pay for it. Great technology, btw.
+1 thegock
No doubt, when are these companies going to port over to Straighttalk. Prepaid phone plans are such a better value for customers.
hope the other manufacturers will follow suit with the big internal memory trend

It's a GSM phone so at this point no go for Verizon.
The HTC EVO will have this for lunch

Kinda hard to really say that as I don't believe we know the amount of RAM this has nor do we know the details on the 1Ghz processor. This phone does however one up the EVO in the screen technology department. The Super AMOLED on this thing is gorgeous.
Please make a CDMA version for Verizon, kthx
This sounds like something I'd want. I loathe my iPhone. Useless without jailbreak.
HD video on a tiny screen? That seems to go with a recent article about watching movies on a phone.
I still think Android is not ready.
Will it address the issue with Bluetooth keyboards? I have a Samsung Galaxy that doesn't support BT correctly and for me it is very annoying (I miss so much my old Palm III when I think on this issue).
Anyway, the 16GB of internal memory, 800x480 and the huuuuuge array of videos formats, makes likely that I would choose this phone before others.
The touchscreen blows...

So you played with it at CTIA? Or are you just being a troll? From the videos I saw it looked quite responsive.
I played with a Galaxy for half an hour, here's my conclusion :
Response to the user still has not surpassed the iPhone 3GS.
Try going to google map or google earth. There is inertia to stop zooming when you release "pinching" and that is really annoying. If I release my fingers, I am expecting the zoom to stop but it goes on with what it is doing for a while. I feel that Samsung(or could be Android !!) is overdoing the fanciful animation. No where in the setup I can turn off this so called inertia thing...
