Samsung Unveils Phone Running Google Android
Samsung has unveiled what will be the company’s first device running Google’s mobile operating system, Android.
Samsung Monday unveiled the i7500, a Qualcomm-powered smartphone packing a 3.2-inch touchscreen (of course), a 5-megapixel camera (reportedly with an LED flash) 8 GB of internal memory, MicroSD support (maximum capacity 32 GB), GPS and 7.2 Mbps 3G and Wi-Fi data connections. It goes without saying that users can expect the full range of Google services from the phone including Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk and Google Maps.
With two Android handsets already available from HTC, the G1 and the HTC Magic, the i7500 will be the first Android-based handset from a major phone company to hit the market, something that could be a huge selling point for the device. While the G1 has been popular since its release (T-Mobile recently hit the 1 million units sold milestone), Android fans who feel the G1 isn’t up to scratch as a device now have something else to consider. Leaving us no time to long for the phone's arrival, Samsung says that it’s going to be available in just over a month, pegging a June release for all major European markets.
Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be any information about a U.S. release or pricing (word on the street is Europeans can expect to fork out around three hundred yoyos for the device). However, as infosyncworld points out, U.S. residents hoping to get their hands on this device can bag an unlocked version for use on T-Mobile’s 3G network.

Wow, this looks just like the kind of phone I've been waiting for. A non-iPhone smartphone that actually looks really cool. Let's hope it lives up to expectations (and also that it becomes available in the US sometime soon...)
... and here I just bought a blackberry for my wife.... oh well, i7500 goodness for ME (assuming it gets positive reviews once released in the US)
meh...
after being forced to use samsung mobile phone (provided by company i work for) i can't see myself using another samsung (this thing dials on it's own). i'll stick to samsung tv, hdd etc. but not phone.
I've used 3 samsung phones and while I have disdain for their requirements to install apps on your computer to plug into them I'm curious how this will work out with the Android setup. I'm going to be buying another phone soon so will wait for reviews, otherwise will go to a Nokia.
This looks like it could be a winner. Looks kinda similar to the Storm, but Android just makes it sweeter. I have a Samsung phone right now... It makes me so mad... It misdials 911 almost every week. I am ready to smash it.
There's one more coming, its the Samsung Omnia HD. Already launched in Europe & its really cool!!
Its a variant of Symbian OS, in case you are wondering.
