Tap tap taperoo!
Music-themed applications for the iPod Touch and iPhone? Sounds like a very good match, given that people do use them for playing music. But what about playing with music? We're not so sure.
EA and Harmonix yesterday revealed that Rock Band would be coming to the iPhone and iPod Touch. That's right, the game that requires plastic guitar and drum instruments (along with a real microphone) is now being ported to a platform where no instruments are used to play the music.
You and up to three other iPhone players can use Bluetooth to all form up a band. The version of Rock Band for iPhone/iPod replicates all four instruments, but all are played by tapping on the screen as the notes come down the "highway."
While we feel it's a definite dilution of the whole concept behind Rock Band, screen-tapping games such as Tap Tap Revolution have done well on the Apple platform.
20 songs will ship with the software, but you can bet that there will be DLC. Those songs are:
Attack-30 Seconds To Mars
Girls Not Grey – AFI
Move Along - All-American Rejects
Sabotage - Beastie Boys
All The Small Things - Blink-182
Hanging on the Telephone – Blondie
Learn To Fly - Foo Fighters
Everlong - Foo Fighters
Bad to The Bone - George Thorogood & the Destroyers
Hymn 43 - Jethro Tull
Bad Reputation - Joan Jett
Simple Man - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Ace of Spades '08 – Motorhead
Debaser - Pixies
Ladybug - Presidents of The United States of America
Give It All - Rise Against
Lazy Eye - Silversun Pickups
Cherub Rock - Smashing Pumpkins
Take The Money and Run - Steve Miller Band
We Got The Beat - The Go Go's

Looks interesting, although I hope it isn't plagued with lag like some iphone games, but it looks great on the youtube video.
$5 says its going to get banned or rejected a couple of times and we'll hear about it here every damn time!
Honestly, I don't care for it. Those games are supposed to make you feel like a rock star when you are playing, and I just don't see how that is possible if you aren't at least holding a guitar-shaped instrument. Playing the game on a console with a controller is fun for a while, but it makes me want to pick up my actual guitar and play, I don't see this game doing that even.
Let's see how it plays Misirlou!
Tap-Tap Revenge is a pretty good game.. Its a fun way to waste a few minutes if you need to AND its free.. Im not sure I would pay money for another app that does the exact thing..
Their taking Rockband for the PSP and porting it to the Iphone with Touch-capabilities.
.... You shake it to go into Overdirve?
They're wasting their time with this when us PC users still haven't seen a single port of Rock Band anything... tisk tisk.
Activision has published Guitar Hero World Tour for the PC (YES, it does exist) so it can be done, now what's the holdup?
I don't get it. Rock Band without the drum kit? Or Guitar? What's the point?
Some of those tracks are actually quite good, and unexpected.
Whatever it is like, it surely must be better than "Rhythm Paradise" on the DS. The day I saw that advertised on TV was the day I realised that Nintendo had truly turned their backs on making *real* computer games. :-(
I wish harmonix good luck on their venture!
