With all the pranks that do the rounds on April 1 (our apologies for this, this and this, but only kind of), people are always on full alert for fear they’ll be, well, fooled.

This is why when you hear anything suspect you automatically write it off as a joke and move on. We were tempted to do the same with a tantilising blog post from Palm but then we remembered the likes of Gmail (which was introduced on April 1 and everyone thought Google was just having a laugh until April 2 rolled around) and decided to give it a little air time.

Posted at four minutes past midnight this morning, an entry on the Palm Blog tells readers to, “Watch this space,” adding a reassuring, “No Foolin’” for those who think it's all a cruel joke. The Online Communications Director for Palm, Jon Zibler, writes that the company had considered running a prank or two but considering there was already a fake Palm video making its way around the net, they decided against penning a Survival Guide for those counting down to the Pre release and go with something more exciting.

Zibler is giving us all a “heads-up (for reals)” to check back later today for an update direct from the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco. Palm news, just the thing to cheer up my rubbish Wednesday. We’ll keep you posted but for now, blind guessing is always fun. The obvious and probably most common answer would be the Palm Pre. That said there's also been talk of a Dell/Palm collaboration or buyout in recent weeks so who knows what the announcement is in relation to.

I have never heard of this one. Judging by the picture, I'm guessing it's something to combat the non-touch screen BlackBerry phones.
