McAfee Sells Rights for Movie of His Life
John McAfee has inked a deal with a production company that hopes to produce the story of his life.
Last week, John McAfee was arrested in Guatemala having been on the run since early November. McAfee disappeared last month after being named the prime suspect in the murder of an American expatriate named Gregory Faull. The 52-year-old man was found dead by his housekeeper lying face up in a pool of blood with an apparent gunshot wound on the upper rear part of his head. The housekeeper discovered Faull's body in his San Pedro home on the island of Ambergris Caye.
Suffice to say, it's a pretty interesting story and prior to these events, McAfee hadn't exactly led an uneventful life. For example, earlier this year, his Belize home was raided and he was arrested for unlicensed drug manufacturing and possession of an unlicensed weapon. He was later released without charge. Now it seems McAfee is hoping to cash in on his life experiences. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Montreal-based TV producer Impact Future Media has acquired the exclusive IP rights to John McAfee's story.
The deal apparently covers film, print and TV. Impact Future Media co-founder Brian Fitzgerald told THR that the hunt is on for investors and productive partners for the McAfee project, which has tentatively been titled 'Running in the Background: The True Story of John McAfee.'
