4. Samsung: New Galaxy Devices and The First "Official" Ultrabook
We can't say we're surprised, but tablets and Ultrabooks are center stage at CES. Asus, Lenovo, Toshiba and Samsung are all bringing new hardware to the table in 2012.
Samsung has been chugging along with tablets for quite a while now, but CES 2012 is its coming out party for ultrabooks. The Series 9, which launched last year, is an unofficial ultrabook of sorts (it launched before that term was really coined). Nevertheless, the Series 9 is still alive and kicking, with the 11-inch model being kicked to the curb while a 15-inch model is introduced. Samsung is touting the 15-inch model as a "15-inch laptop in a 14-inch body" which seemed to be true upon closer inspection. The internals are by and large the same, with low voltage Core i5 and i7 CPUs coming into play. Samsung's InstantOn is also here, sporting a 9.8 second boot time and a battery life of up to 10 hours.
While the Series 9 has been around since 2011, the Series 5 Ultra is an ultrabook through and through. In fact, it's the only 14-inch ultrabook to have an optical drive. Both the 13- and 14-inch models come with core i5 CPUs, 4 GB of RAM, HDMI, and USB 3.0. The 14 inch gains an optical drive and a multi-format card reader (the 13-incher has an SD card reader only). While both models are ultrabooks, they are a hefty air, weighing in at 3.5 and 3.95 pounds respectively.

LOL Toshiba has a 5.1 inch tablet. So 5" is a phone but 5.1 is a tablet.
man that looks awesome. would be great if the yoga is under $1000, bought i doubt it will be
The Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga was by far my favorite ultrabook from this year’s CES. I love that it essentially comes with its own stand and is a touchscreen. So many great gadgets were introduced at CES; it’s hard to keep track of them all. My favorite was the Hopper from DISH. It is DISH’s newest DVR and hasn’t been released yet but it will be worth the wait. It has more storage for recordings than any other DVR. It also has a feature called PrimeTime Anytime that lets users record all of the primetime HD content from CBS, NBC, FOX, and ABC and save it for eight days. I’m not sure when the Hopper or the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga will make it to my house but you can bet it will be as soon as possible. At least I work for DISH so will know exactly when the Hopper will be released. As for the IdeaPad, I’ll have to keep a close eye on the tech news.
