New iPod, anyone?
Motorola has given us an Android event to look forward to on September 10 but there's still the possibility of an Apple event just one day before that. While Apple has yet to confirm anything of the sort, AppleInsider claims to have it on good authority that Cupertino-based Apple will host an iPod event on September 9.
AppleInsider earlier reported that it could "independently confirm" that Apple would be introducing its 2009 iPod offerings at an event on September 9.
"People familiar with the matter say the Cupertino-based electronics maker had been teetering between Sept. 8 and Sept. 9 for weeks, but most recently indicated to its industry-related partners that the latter of the two dates would be more feasible."
However, while the prospect of new iPods is all well and good (rumored changes to the devices include the addition of a camera to both the iPod touch and the iPod nano), AI also reports that we could get our first look at iTunes 9. Reports over the last few weeks have included purported screenshots of the software, which is said to have Facebook, Last.fm, and Twitter integration.

Beatles iPod?
Pic of new ipod?
Forget ipods, i want dx11 cards! XD
^Haha agreed. I hope they release a 64GB touch and shift the prices of the 32GB and 16GB down accordingly. Don't care about the camera much...
I`m going to bet they will either double capacity and maintain the same prices, or drop prices to match that of the Zune HD.
Oh here comes another ipod... same as the ones before it, just another way to steal money from the teens (who in turn steal the money from their parents). Apple is so pathetic, and I hate that, yet again, they will make billions on the same product they have already sold 4 times! If you have a 1st gen ipod, then update, but if you have the 2nd and beyond, then forget updating and be happy with what you got and SAVE YOUR MONEY!
omnimodis78,
The evolution of the ipod has been to double the capacity and keep the same price sticker. A good deal if you are in need of a player. Why would you call it stealing? They are not forcing you to upgrade to the newest ipod. If you need one then buy one, if not then do not.
I wouldnt call all of the ipod generations the same. They all have slightly different elements to them. Of course the overall design is going to be similar. Why fix what is not broken.
AHHHHH! iBomb!

It's because Apple has sold over 206 Million ipods to date. Given that roughly 25% of the population is over 65 or under 12 that means that close to every American should own an iPod now. Who are they possibly selling these things too if not repeat buyers?
I'm still using my G1 nano.
Zune HD FTW!!!
I still enjoying my 1st Gen nano as well. I use it primarily for jogging and exercising, so of the 2 GB's of Space I only use about 400 MB's

The great thing about the repeat buyers is that you get the last gen stuff for a fraction of the price. I'm looking forward to buying a Gen 2 touch for about $100 off someone at school, when they upgrade to the new gen
I could have told you back in 2005 that Apple was going to release new iPods at a media event in September of 2009. In fact I will go out on a limb here and make an extremely bold prediction that in September of 2010 Apple will release new iPods. Bold, I know.

WTF RLY? I wonder how you know these things. It isn't as if they've happened before. *ponders*

Ever hear of Moore's Law? Well, it is technology and it will change quickly as the field evolves. But, I am sure there are no geeks who wait to buy the latest and greatest hardware...I mean after all we all use the same computers for 10 years or until they crap out on us. Right?
Do you still drive the same car you bought as a kid...or stole from your parents? So what if people like to spend their money on new toys, that is their prerogative and I don't know why you would even give a flying fart what they do with their money. Besides...it will help this ailing economy.
i guess with this generation they will stop making the 8GB ipod and make the customer pay a buttload for the 16GB
Great, more cheap cameras to take really poor photos that can be posted all over the internet. Sigh...

There ARE people outised the united states, you know that right?

For not having any zoom capabilities, the iPhone takes pretty damn good pictures..
This remind me of that film Halloween 2, the one where the bad guy puts shards of a stolen Stonehenge rock into the masks and then uses a TV advert to kill all the kids in America.
Steve Jobs gets everyone in the world on an iPod, does a few tests with French iPods to see if the explosive charge works then...
BOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!
In September I would recommend putting your iPod in a drawer and dont sit next to anyone with white headphones on the tube.

Oh gee whiz, let me thinks about this. Maybe they break, fall into toilets, get old and worn out, and maybe some are shipped overseas like mentioned above. Use something everyday, for hours a day, and it will wear out.

Wrong. My little man still works after 29 years of use (and abuse)!
It is a relative term in your case. One day it will die (the laws of entropy apply to everything.) The life cycle of high-tech toys is not that long and that is the subject here.
Maybe you should discard the small and go BIG.
I had a gen 1 nano, ended up buying an 80gig ipod classic. I needed the space, that and it finally died (after being used/stored in a car and subjected to 10-120 degree temperatures for a few years.)

Most likely you will pay as much for the 16 as you did the 8. Then you will pay as much for a 32 as you did for the 16. This is more like how apple seems to do business when it comes to ipods.
social networking, ftl. I'm more interested in the hardware than the fluff. always cool to see apple's new offerings although I have never purchased an apple product in my life lol.
Apple pisses me off like people always rant on how the zune is inferior to the ipod. but there has been like what at least 7 or 8 generations of different ipods and only 2 gen's of zune's if it takes apple 7-8 tries and microsoft only 2 who wins this battle? and besides the only peice of technology that even a microsoft fan boy would even consider of getting is an ipod touch because they just happened to make it something new. i hate how every ambercrombie/american eagle wearing kid has an ipod not because they see it as a superior peice of technology but because "their friends have one" and i would not care if i had to use a mac for work or typing but thats like the only thing i could do with it i couldnt use my sony vegas or play any of my games. Apple sucks overpriced shit for crap usage. kinda like buying a 40 inch HD TV and a BLU RAY player with surround sound for your house to watch the news in the morning nothing else. would cost less than a mac laptop.
Quit whinning. Why do you care what people buy, why they buy, or who they choose to buy from?
To win the market in America, you need good marketing. To maintain a loyal consumer base, you must make a quality product, and to continue expanding you must be innovative. Most people choose to go with Apple for those very reasons, and only a few are for the reasons you speak of.
Granted, not many people really know why they buy the technology that they buy...but, many know the feel of a good product built for hand use. Have you asked kids why they like the iPhone Touch? I have, and it has everything to do with how the product functions, feels, and provides them with the media experience they want. You also have to realize that Apple has spent decades addressing the multimedia experience, while MS is stepping in a little late hoping to get in on some of the action...but, too bad for MS they have dropped the ball when it comes to consumer confidence. Apple has done just the opposite, plus they have the advantage of having the real touchy-feely hardware that MS only wishes they had. Capitalism at its finest!
maybe these new ipods will explode louder adn send more shrapnal flying? maybe they wont even hiss before they explode they will just explode

Yea. How cool. More injury, more blood, more pain, more grief,...just what we need in this world. To borrow a phrase: "And you are from what planet?"
Sweet!!! The new iPod Nano NB(Nuclear Boom). Wow, Impulse Fire911, where to begin?

Apple, because each generation of iPod has actually sold well. How many car manufacturers are advertising: "Zune compatibility"?
http://www.zunescene.mobi/forums/i [...] .msg383704
FAIL.
and besides the only peice of technology that even a microsoft fan boy would even consider of getting is an ipod touch because they just happened to make it something new.
?
I'm not touching this, because I'm not sure you've made your point very clear.
i hate how every ambercrombie/american eagle wearing kid has an ipod not because they see it as a superior peice of technology but because "their friends have one"
So, loving a product based on it's popularity is stupid. What about hating a product for the same reason? Unstupid?
i would not care if i had to use a mac for work or typing but thats like the only thing i could do with it i couldnt use my sony vegas or play any of my games.
Any apple made in the last 4 years can run anything made for PC. My Macbook has Windows7 RC, OS X Leopard, and Ubuntu. I don't even need to reboot my system if I want to run a windows app, I have WinXP running in VMWare and linux apps can run native under X11 compiler. Apple is a closed platform for hardware, but it's an extremely open platform for software. You really should do some research about this. Any game for PC will run just wonderfully on a mac, so will Sony Vegas.
Apple sucks overpriced shit for crap usage. kinda like buying a 40 inch HD TV and a BLU RAY player with surround sound for your house to watch the news in the morning nothing else. would cost less than a mac laptop.
Apple isn't interested in making the most affordable product, they're focused on making the highest quality product. You get what you pay for, anyone that uses Mac OS X most likely finds it more enjoyable, and worth the premium. Design, cohesion, and devoted customer support have a price. For most Apple customers, this is acceptable. Any perceived limitation you imagine a Mac having is pure fantasy.
Yes, I know their laptops cost more, I've seen the commercials.
Also, cars made by Hyundai cost more than cars made by BMW and Audi.
