Apple Apologises for MobileMe Mess

It seems as though Apple has finally come out and apologized for the “rocky” transition to MobileMe, although they’re still not covering the messy issue of the not so free trials.
Shortly after the MobileMe launch, users began to complain that they were being charged for a supposedly free trial of the service. Registration requires a credit or debit card and a fee of $1 for authorization, however many people complained they were being charged $99 following registration.
As reported by TGDaily earlier, while Apple had acknowledged the problem, the company had yet to offer an explanation as to what went wrong. The company contacted affected customers and said that it had been working to solve the problem but aside from that, didn’t really shed any light on the matter.
"Apple worked quickly to identify and resolve an issue that caused an incorrect temporary hold when certain new accounts - including yours - were created."
The message did not say what Apple’s plans for refunds were or what had caused the problem.
"Within the next few days, the MobileMe engineering team will contact you by email to provide more information about how this matter will be resolved."
It seems another email has surfaced apologizing for the way the launch went, however there was no mention of the charges to customers accounts. The company said that the transition had been “rockier than [they] had hoped” and went on to say that while initially there had been problems with the new MobileMe web application, these had been resolved and the apps were now up and running.
The MobileMe team also retracted its use of the word “push” to describe “everything under the MobileMe umbrella.”
“Another snag we have run into is our use of the work “push” in describing everything under the MobileMe umbrella. While all email, calender or contact changes on the iPhone and web apps are immediately synced to the MobileMe “cloud”, changes made on a PC or Mac take up to 15 minutes to sync with the cloud and your other devices. So, even though things are indeed instantly pushed from your iPhone and web apps today, we’re going to stop using the word “pushed” until it is near instant on PCs and Macs too.”
As a thanks for customers patience, MobileMe is giving all current subscribers a free 30 day extension onto their subscription. We have no idea if you’ll end up paying for this one or not. Watch this space.
