Apple Announces New York Press Event for Next Week

- By - Source : Tom's Guide US

Class is in session.

A couple of weeks ago, rumors started doing the rounds that Apple was planning to hold an event in New York City before the end of the month. Well, the rumors were true, as Cupertino has revealed that it's heading to New York on January 19 for a special announcement.

Sadly, those hoping this would be an iPad 3 or Apple TV press event will be disappointed, as the invitation indicates this event is all about Apple in the education market. In fact, if the scuttlebutt is to be believed, there's going to be no new hardware at all. What a shame. Still, it will be interesting to see what Apple has up its sleeve for education. The company already offers a wide range of educational content via iTunes U, so it's not like this is new territory.

Rather fittingly, the event is set to take place in the Guggenheim museum. Field trip, anyone?

Maybe they will finally give schools a discount on iPad's? Not likely but... we currently pay $499 like everyone else for the cheapest model. $479 if we buy them in 10-packs.

They are offering a $10 scholarship to one student in the USA as their generous way of giving back to the community?

Apple will announce that it has run out of companies to sue .... so it will sue itself for using its own technology.

Probably something similar to Live @ Edu or Google Apps for education. As usual (like with iCloud) they will come in to the game way late and call it "revolutionary".

When I was going to school, all the dumb kids used mac classics and LCIII's to "learn" typing, do their english assignment, etc etc....

But the real men were busy in the PC lab trying to see how much overclocking a 8088/286 could take, was programming C++/Pascal, trying to blow stuff up along with the chemistry kids, and trashing *Finder* on the Macs =D

The logo looks cool enough. I suspect this might be the announcement of iPad3.
