Nintendo 3DS Projected for October 2010
Nintendo's new platform is expected to launch in October 2010.
While Nintendo hasn't announced anything official, various reports on Tuesday indicated that the company plans to release the upcoming 3DS handheld gaming unit in October 2010. CVG is at the root of the scoop, claiming unnamed UK industry sources as the information suppliers. Although Nintendo won't actually reveal the platform until June, an October arrival is certainly sooner that previously expected.
"It's a surprise--we were expecting it much closer to Christmas," one publisher told CVG. "But I suppose it gives Nintendo the opportunity to get it front and center in people's minds nice and early. In my experience, you don't launch a product that early to Christmas unless you're confident in it--and going to spend a lot of money on it. We're reassured that Nintendo is going to give it some decent backing in Q4."
An October launch date also puts it up against Microsoft's Project Natal motion sensing device slated for the Xbox 360 in the same timeframe. Although the two devices are targeted for different audiences, it will be interesting to see which one will claim the largest amount of holiday season revenue.
Naturally Nintendo is denying the October launch date, saying that it's merely rumor and speculation. However, it's believed that October 10 may be the actual launch date. When released, the 3DS will offer portable 3D gaming without the need for special glasses. It will also serve as the next full-fledged Nintendo handheld platform launch since the Nintendo DS hit the market in 2004.

Very interesting. I do believe that this is too soon, though. We JUST got the XL. It just seems like Nintendo will lose sales due to an over saturated market.
if its coming so soon, why are we yet to get any real info on the device?
i want to know about internals, features, software. at the very least i'd like to know what games are coming at launch. better yet i'd like to see some screenshots. is this thing going to be another underpowered system, or will its graphics horesepower give it an advantage?
gah, the wait before the info leaks is always the worst.
That puts it up against the PS Move too right?
Not too surprising has Nintendo's biggest competition right now is Apple with their iphone/itouch/ipad. Mobile gaming on these device's is pretty sweet and many developers are making many games with lower prices. Case in point check out Street Fighter IV on the itouch, graphics are pretty close to that of the 360 or PS3. BTW I am not an apple fanboy just stating the obvious, when you compare Nintendo's "app store" to Apple's it's a no brainer. Nintendo will be smart to come out with the 3DS ASAP. I certainly look forward to getting one!!
3D handheld Gaming...
Sounds Good To me! Bring em on!!!
Dammit I just bought the DSlite. Oh well, 3D FTW.

*sigh* Okay....I'll bite....I'm sure you've heard this before...:
The iPhone/iTouch are *not*, I repeat, *NOT*, I repeat again *NOT* *NOT* worthy of consideration as serious/true/usable/traditional/capable/authentic (

All i know is i'm preordering one as soon as the option is there.
@jestern
would be nice if you finish you sentences....hey I am just pointing out the obvious, never said the iphone/itouch/ipad was a DS killer but the fact that many games are made for it and cheaper really makes the DS game store seem meager with the some of the titles that are being offered and at higher prices I might add. So stop being an Apple hater, sure sounds like it from your post. Myself I like all technologies no matter the company!!
