AT&T today confirmed that, following the launch of the network's first Gingerbread phone, the HTC Status, on July 17, it is preparing to launch Gingerbread for all of its post-paid 2011 Android smartphones.
"AT&T confirmed that upgrades to the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) platform are planned for all post-paid Android smartphones already introduced this year," the company said in a statement, adding that Motorola ATRIX 4G users will receive an update to Android 2.3 starting this week and HTC Inspire 4G users will receive the update in the coming weeks. Samsung Captivate owners will be pleased to note that they'll also be getting the update.
As far as upgrading to Gingerbread goes, AT&T says it's planning on rolling out the update over-the-air but mentions that in some cases, users may need to connect to Wi-Fi or to their PC to download the update.
