I used to think of Amazon's Prime Day sale as the only place to seize the top mattress and sleep deals during the summer. However, in recent years, the best mattresses we've tested have experienced price drops at America's most popular bed-in-a-box brands.
So this year, we're keeping a close eye on both the Prime Day mattress deals at Amazon and rival sales elsewhere. Some of the best mattresses on Amazon are already slashing their prices, so here's the place to come to if you want to look out for the best mattress sales on Amazon or just the no-Prime-membership-needed mattress sales.

When do the June Prime Day mattress sales start?
The first Prime Day of 2026 (aka Prime Day pt.2) begins on June 23 and ends June 26. This four-day sale offers big discounts on a range of products — including mattresses and bedding — to Prime members.
We expect a few deals to trickle in prior to the sale days (there's always a chance to save on a mattress at Amazon) but for the most part, the discounts are unlikely to kick off until the 23rd. Once they've started they'll continue through the 26th but by the 27th, the majority of the deals will have come to the end.
Be aware that in previous Big Deal Days we've seen some offers change overnight. For example, a mattress that isn't discounted on the 26th might go on sale by the 27th.
But it's equally important to know that sizes can sell out, particularly on budget beds. So think carefully before making your choice.
Do you need to be a Prime member to save on a mattress in the Big Deal Days 2026?
To enjoy the Big Deal Day discounts you will need a Prime membership — we explain how to sign up for Amazon Prime, plus the perks it entails.
While there are likely to be some discounted mattresses for general shoppers, based on previous sales we suspect the biggest savings will be reserved for Prime members. So if you're looking for a deal on the best Amazon mattresses, we recommend signing up for Prime.
However, we expect to see some rival sales to contend with Prime, particularly from third-party retailers such as Walmart and Mattress Firm.
And in previous years sleep brands such as DreamCloud, Nectar and Helix have gone toe-to-toe with Amazon's Prime offers. Fingers crossed we'll see something similar this time.
Prime Day vs Black Friday mattress sales: Should you buy or should you wait?
There used to be no contest: Black Friday is the biggest mattress sales event of the year and it’s still our top recommended time to buy a mattress.
However, recently the Amazon Prime Day sales have established themselves as an excellent time to save on sleep essentials. That’s largely because Amazon has expanded its mattress line-up with some of our favorite brands.
For the most part, the biggest Amazon discounts are confined to budget beds. If you’re after a low-cost option, shopping the Prime Day sale can net you a bargain (and you'll get a new mattress in your guest room before Thanksgiving.)
But we’re also expecting deals on some mid-range and luxury beds this Prime Day, based on the discounts observed last October. This could be a good time to invest in a quality bed and beat the November rush.
Black Friday still bests Prime Day, however, when it comes to variety of deals as we're expecting mattress sales from pretty much every major sleep brand and retailer. Some places do run rival Prime Day sales (we’ll be keeping a close eye on Walmart and Wayfair) but most mattress makers will be saving their best deals for Black Friday.
So when should you shop? If you’re looking for a cheap bed, Prime Day should have many opportunities to save on a mattress. And if you value speed over options (you want a bed now and you’re not hugely fussy), it’s worth bookmarking this page for the best Prime Day mattress deals.
Otherwise, Black Friday is still our number one mattress sale.
Can you save on pillows and bedding in the Big Deal Days 2026?
Yes, we're expecting to see sales on your bedding essentials in the June Prime Day sale 2026 (plus some luxury items — something I'll cover below.)
In last year's July Prime Day sale we saw price drops on some of the best pillows we've tested, as well as savings on sheets, mattress protectors, duvets and comforters.
And in the last October's Prime Day sale there were discounts on some of the best mattress toppers you can buy online, including money off our favorite cooling topper. We're hoping for something similar this year.
Is Amazon Prime Day a good time to buy a mattress?
Amazon Prime Day has always been a good time to save on tech but until recently, it's been a footnote in the mattress sales calendar. However, as the Amazon mattress line-up has expanded to include more beds for every budget, the Prime Day mattress sales have also grown in interest.
While Prime Day still can't compete with the deep discounts of Memorial Day and Black Friday — typically the two biggest mattress deals events — the deals are getting better and the offers more expansive.
How do I return a mattress to Amazon?
The Amazon mattress returns process can be complex and largely depends on which mattress you have purchased. You can find more information in our explainer on how to return a mattress to Amazon but here's a quick rundown:
Most mattresses sold on Amazon have a 30-100 day return policy, allowing you to return and refund your bed if you're unhappy with the purchase. To do so, contact the Amazon Returns Center to arrange a pick-up.
However, there's a catch: the Amazon returns policy applies to mattresses in their original condition. In other words, still in the box.
If you've opened your mattress only to find it doesn't meet your needs, you can often still return it. However, the return window is typically under 30 days and you're unlikely to claim a full refund.
But to make things more confusing, some brands selling mattresses on Amazon do offer a sleep trial. During this at-home testing period if you decide the mattress isn't right for you, you can return it for a refund. The average sleep trial lasts 100 nights and you will typically need to contact the manufacturer, rather than Amazon, to claim your refund.
So depending on your mattress, the returns policy can change significantly. We recommend closely reading the terms and conditions before making your purchase, to fully understand your rights.
Prime Day mattress deals 2026: Sales predictions and analysis
I've been tracking mattress sales for nearly two years now and the sleep deals in 2024's Amazon October Big Deal Days blew me away.
Last October I was expecting money off budget-friendly, cheap mattresses. And I got that. But I also saw surprise savings on mid-range and luxury mattresses, as well as big price drops on some eco-friendly beds.
This included savings from popular mattress in a box brands such as Leesa and Casper. Even more excitingly, the prices at Amazon were actually lower than direct from the brand.
Perhaps this shouldn't have been a huge surprise — Amazon has expanded its mattress line-up recently, with more and more sleep brands operating through the third-party site. This has ensured a greater variety of mattresses and, therefore, a better range of savings.
In last summer's Prime Day sales, however, the deals were largely confined to cheaper to mid-range mattresses. That might be a sign of things to come in this sale... or it could indicate summer is the time for bargain beds, fall for luxury discounts.
Don't get me wrong, I'm predicting plenty of offers on mattresses of all price tiers. You can get a new mattress, pillows and bedding for your guest room without blowing the 4th of July budget.
One final note: due to tariffs, mattress prices have been rising throughout the year. That means even if the discounts match 2025's savings, the final cost might be higher overall.
