Onimusha: Way of the Sword up next

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is the next game getting a new trailer. It looks like an action-packed feast, and while I've never played an Onimusha title before, this one certainly has my attention!

Monster Hunter Wilds and Fantasy Final 14 are getting cross over content from the other, Capcom and Square Enix teaming up for a pretty cool collaboration.

LEGO Batman looks like another fantastic family adventure

Gamescom ONL 2025

It doesn't look like LEGO Batman: The Dark Knight Legacy will break too much from the classic LEGO style, but that's no bad thing. One new change is that it will add difficulty levels, so if you've ever thought LEGO games were a total cake-walk then this new feature will be for you. LEGO Dark Souls, next?

New LEGO Batman game confirmed

The rumors have been suggesting a new LEGO Batman video game for a while, and they were spot on. The next announcement is LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, and it appears to be taking source material from across the Batman movies, including "The Dark Knight" and the most recent "The Batman" movie.

It will launch in 2025. Now we're getting extra insight from the head of the development team.

Sekiro is getting an anime adaption

Gamescom ONL 2025

I just started a playthrough of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice earlier this month, so I'm very pleased to see that it's being adapted into an anime called Sekiro: No Defeat. The artstyle looks stunning and it's coming exclusively to Crunchy Roll.

Lords of the Fallen 2 showcased

Gamescom ONL 2025

The CoD section is over (I suspect some viewers are very pleased about that), next up its Lords of the Fallen 2. We've got a swanky CGI trailer, and confirmation it's arriving in 2026. I'm very sure interested in giving this one a try, though I wish we'd got a peak at some gameplay, CGI trailers never quite hit the spot for me.

Black Ops 7's campaign supports 4 player co-op

Gamescom ONL 2025

The Call of Duty chat isn't over, now we're seeing a developer diary which confirms the solo campaign won't be so solo. While it can be played alone, you can also bring up to three friends to play in 4-player co-op, and there's also a PvE End Game mode that lets you carry on playing even when you beat all the missions.

CoD developers are talking Black Ops 7 on stage

We're not stopping with that slick trailer, now a pair of developers on Black Ops 7 are on stage with Geoff giving us extra insight into the game.

Call of Duty Black Ops 7 is up next!

And now we're straight into a new look at Call of Duty Black Ops 7! I looks like Call of Duty, with a sci-fi spin this year (very befitting of the Black Ops name), and as a CoD enjoyer, that's all good with me. This trailer appears to be focused largely on the single-player campaign instead of the multiplayer portion.

Hollow Knight: Silksong starts the show

Gamescom ONL 2025

No clown makeup required today, as Geoff Keighley has taken to the stage to showcase new Hollow Knight: Silksong footage, still no release date, but at least we know it's real and is indeed coming later this year!

The one PS5 game I don't need to see at Gamescom ONL

A screenshot from the Ghost of Yotei State of Play 2024 PS5 announcement trailer showing Atsu drawing a sword

We already know that Ghost of Yōtei will be featured at today's Gamescom ONL showcase, but it's actually a PS5 exclusive that I don't want to see any more of.

That's not because of a lack of interest, but quite the opposite. I loved 2020's Ghost of Tsushima, so I was sold on this sequel from the very first trailer, but now, after an extended State of Play presentation dedicated to Sucker Punch's new open-world Samurai adventure, I've seen enough. I'm eager to explore Yōtei for myself, so don't feel the need to have even more of the game spoiled.

I guess I might have to briefly look away during the Ghost of Yōtei segment!

Less than one hour to go!

Now is the time to start getting your setup ready as Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025 begins in less than an hour. Now is the time to nip to the nearest shop if you still need snacks, because we're not far away from the good stuff starting!

The spotlight is yours Call of Duty

Call of Duty Black Ops 7 keyart

We know that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is going to feature at Gamescom Opening Night Live, and I feel like this could be an important showcase for the juggernaut shooter series.

Right now, the momentum is with EA's rival Battlefield 6, after a well-received reveal event, and a recent open beta that was so popular I couldn't even play at the weekend because the servers were full (fortunately, I played BF6 at a recent preview event already, and trust me, it's shaping up to be Battlefield at its best).

Call of Duty has been declared "too big to fail" in recent weeks, but I get the sense it needs to leave a positive impression on the watching crowd today to gain back some ground, so I'll be watching the Black Ops 7 portion with great interest.

Well there's at least one reveal confirmed!

Look away if you don't want any spoilers, because we've just got confirmation of a new reveal heading to Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025...

Yup, that's Lords of the Fallen 2 confirmed to be featured tonight at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025. Technically the third game in the series - both the first and second games in the franchise are called Lords of the Fallen - this will be a sequel to 2023's popular Soulslike. I had mixed feeling about the game when I played it around launch, but I hear it's since been updated into very good shape.

We can (probably) expect to see Mr. Bond today

One rumored game that I think we can be confident will feature at Gamescom Opening Night Live is 007: First Light. My colleague Darragh Murphy is on the scene in Germany (I swear I'm not jealous...), and notes that there are plenty of signs that Mr. Bond is going to have a big presence at the show.

This upcoming action-adventure title from Hitman developer IO Interactive was teased back in 2020 and formally revealed at the Sony State of Play earlier this summer. It's set to be released in 2026, so Gamescom seems like the perfect place to showcase more of this first AAA James Bond game in 13 years.

Welcome to our live Gamescom 2025 coverage!
