Eco-conscious shoppers have more choice than ever when it comes to choosing the best organic mattress. There are some brilliant environmentally-friendly options available at a range of price points, but for our money the leading choice right now is the Avocado Green, a luxury organic mattress that we found to be suitable for all sleep styles in our Avocado Green mattress review.

The Avocado Green is a top-quality mattress made with multiple layers of natural and organic materials, including wool, cotton, latex and springs. It's handcrafted in Los Angeles and, unlike most mattresses in a box, it's hand-tufted to keep its layers in place.

Avocado Green: an organic champion

The Avocado Green is the brand's most popular option, and it's easy to see why. It's eco-friendly without compromising on comfort and support, it features high-quality materials including GOTS-certified wool and cotton and GOLS-certified latex, and it's breathable and naturally temperature-regulating.

We count it among the best firm mattresses we've tested, so it's particularly suitable for back and stomach sleepers as well as being ideal for heavier bodies; if you're prepared to pay extra there's a pillow-top option suitable for all positions, or a box-top for maximum pressure relief.

There are some great organic mattresses to buy right now, many of which give the Avocado Green a run for its money. This year we've been impressed by the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss, which we think is a great option if you suffer from back or joint pain, and by the Birch Luxe Natural mattress, featuring eight natural layers and a Euro top.

The Avocado Green's big selling point is its natural, organic construction, but that's no use if it's not a comfortable mattress that delivers support where it's needed, and we're happy to report that for the most part it does an excellent job. Its Dunlop foam gives it quite a firm feel and, as mentioned, it's best suited to back and stomach sleepers.

We also found that it excelled in terms of isolating motion across the surface of the bed, as well as providing robust support around the edge, making this a great mattress for anyone who shares a bed. Plus, our reviewer awarded it the full five out of five for its temperature regulation, noting that despite being prone to occasional elevated temperatures while sleeping, she never had any overheating issues on the Avocado Green; she also added that it felt cool to the touch.

The only real minus point in our original review was a $99 delivery fee, but since then Avocado has introduced free shipping to the contiguous USA. And because this is quite a firm mattress with not much in the way of contouring, side sleepers may not get on with the standard model; as mentioned, however, there are softer upgrades available.

In short, the Avocado Green is the best organic mattress available right now, and the perfect choice for environmentally-focused sleepers.
