Ooni reveals new intelligent electric pizza oven — and its a game-changer

As the summer weather subsides and outdoor cooking fans start to move back indoors, Ooni has revealed its latest cooking offer, and it’s got Intelligence written all over it. Plus, rather than enjoying your homemade pizza cooked al fresco, on one of the best outdoor pizza ovens powered by gas, Ooni’s latest offering is electric.
The Volt 2 is the second electric pizza oven to join Ooni’s range, and follows in the footsteps of the Volt 12, launched back in 2023, to let you cook your delicious, cheese-covered pizzas in moments inside away from the elements.
Ooni’s Volt 2 Electric Pizza Oven will be available in charcoal grey or polar white in the U.K. from October 1, retailing for £499. We’re yet to hear when it will be available in the U.S, but we’ll be the first to let you know when the date is released. And although it’s not an entry-level pizza oven, it could be a worthy upgrade for pizza aficionados.
What we know about the Ooni Volt 2
To separate it from that earlier model, the Volt 2 has added intelligence, with Ooni claiming it to have "a world first adaptive heating system providing speed, accuracy and baking consistency, all at the touch of a button."
It’s a development that Ooni has been working on since the launch of the Volt 12. "We’ve listened to feedback and have been busy conducting rigorous testing to create the most technologically advanced indoor pizza oven available today," said Kristian Tapaninaho, founder and co-CEO at Ooni.
And he adds, "Our team of expert engineers has created an oven that’s super easy to use but still delivers amazing, consistent results, whether you’re a pizza pro or just love experimenting in the kitchen."
We’ll wait to see the results for ourselves, but I know there’ll be a few pizza aficionados at Tom’s Guide willing to put it through its paces to see whether it’s the best Ooni pizza oven for you.
Pizza with extra intelligence
Apparently the main upgrade from the Volt 12 will be Ooni's new Pizza Intelligence system, and although that name could be a deliberate reference to Apple Intelligence, there's no mention of AI here.

Instead, the technology uses real-time sensor data to balance heat between the top and base heating elements, with Ooni explaining that this minimizes temperature fluctuations and cold spots.
But what does this really mean in terms of cooking pizza? You’ll get a consistently perfect pizza every time. And three preset pizza modes also help to take the guesswork out of cooking the perfect pizza, allowing you to enjoy crispy New York style slices to deep pan styles.
At the same time, the cooking system automatically adjusts the temperature and crisping intensity for the ultimate result. What’s more, when you find your favorite combo, you can bookmark your preferred settings using the custom presets.
Futuristic looks, compact design
The Volt 2 is 30% smaller in stature than the Volt 12, making it easier to place on your countertop without taking over your kitchen, while still cooking a decent 13-inch pizza. And it can reach up to 842°F (450°C), for an authentic Neapolitan-style pizza in as little as 90 seconds, with Ooni claiming it gets twice as hot as traditional home ovens.
I think the Volt 2 takes on a more futuristic appearance than the Volt 12, featuring a smooth design without hard angles and a sleek touch control panel. Plus, it has a wide, edge-to-edge tempered glass viewing window, so you can watch your pizza bake second by second.
But if you're looking for a model you can pick up right now, and without breaking the bank, the Volt 12 is currently down to just $629 at Ooni's store, saving you almost $270 on the regular price, making this pizza making machine a steal.
This electric-powered indoor pizza oven made Oprah's coveted list of favorite things for 2023. It reaches 850 degrees but traps smoke and has an automatic shut-off timer, so it's safe to use inside your kitchen.
