Despite being almost a year old at this point, the Sony WH-1000XM6 are among the very best headphones you can buy... if you don't mind paying a premium for them. Thanks to Amazon's early spring deals, however, you can pick up the Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones for $398 over at Amazon.
That's 13% off the normal price, and saves you $61 off a comfortable set of cans with great sound quality, good ANC and excellent battery life.
If you want good sound and ANC, packed into a pair of comfortable headphones, now's your chance to pick up the Sony WH-1000XM6 at a discount. They may not top our best headphones page, but they're still an excellent option — especially with the 30+ hours of battery life.
Admittedly, there isn't a whole lot of difference from their predecessor: the WH-1000XM5. As we pointed out in our Sony WH-1000MX6 review, there's only just enough of an update to mark these cans as different from the previous generation. Sound quality honed in on vocal quality, while new microphones allowed the XM6 to better adapt to ambient noise.
Don't let that stop you, however. These headphones do have a lot of great qualities: The noise cancellation, while not industry-leading, is still rather good. The headphones were able to block out most sound from simulated plane noise and real-life crying infants, which is always beneficial.
Sony also offers excellent codec support, lossless playback and improved vocal clarity. However, this comes at the expense of a wide soundstage, so you don't get the same "live show" feeling you might get with other headphones.
But easily the most important aspect for any set of over-ear headphones is that they're comfortable. I can not tell you the number of times I've worn headphones that have dug into the top of the head and given me a migraine because the design didn't accommodate my head shape. Heck, even the ear defenders I wear whenever I use power tools have to be positioned on my head at an angle to fit properly.
The XM6's wider headband means that they are so much more comfortable than a lot of other headphones, including the XM5, meaning you can wear them for longer periods of time. Sony also included physical buttons for major features, which means you've got a lot more finesse and control over what you're doing compared to touch-based alternatives.
The price is still pretty high, but if you've had your eye on the Sony WH-1000XM6 for some time, and have been waiting for an opportunity to pick up this pair of the best headphones at a discount, these headphones have never been cheaper.
