Bone conduction headphones solve a common problem for runners, which is that they want to listen to music and podcasts during workouts while also not blocking their ears so they can stay aware of their surroundings.
The Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 solve a common problem with bone conduction headphones, which is that most of them don’t sound all that great. The OpenRun Pro 2 offer the best sound quality I’ve come across with bone conduction buds, and right now you can get them for $139 in the Amazon Big Spring Sale, a 20% saving.
The Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 are the best bone conduction headphones I’ve ever tested, but their high price can be off-putting, so it’s great to see them reduced by $40 in the Amazon Big Spring Sale. They offer better sound quality than other bone conduction buds, along with a reliable fit for running, and long battery life.
I was marathon training when I tested the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 for my review and ran with them every day for two weeks, along with doing other workouts like bike rides and strength sessions while wearing them.
As with all of Shokz’s earhook headphones, the fit is very secure for runs, and the lightweight design of the OpenRun Pro 2 means I barely noticed them on long runs.
I did notice the improved sound quality though, especially as the OpenRun Pro 2 are louder and bassier than any other bone conduction headphones I’ve used — exactly what you need when you turn to your power-pop playlist to push through the last few miles of a hard run.
The battery life of the OpenRun Pro 2 is also impressive at 12 hours, though I did find they came up a little short of that if you used them at max volume all the time, which is usually necessary when outdoors in my experience.
If you’re a long-term runner who’s never tried bone conduction buds, or someone training for a first marathon in need of audio inspiration on the run, now’s the perfect time to buy a set because the entire Shokz line-up is reduced in the Amazon Big Spring Sale.
Cheaper options like the Shokz OpenRun or previous OpenRun Pro model are good, but I think it’s worth the upgrade to the OpenRun Pro 2 if you value sound quality, because they are a notable step up in an area where bone conduction headphones do struggle.
