16. Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV600
Toshiba's Qosmio G35-AV600 17" notebook with Microsoft Windows MCE on-screen
When we wrote our review of the previous Qosmio model last fall, we called that model a "beautiful monster." The latest incarnation in this series retains that moniker, and manages to offer more capability for $600 less (based on MSRP pricing for each unit at the time it was reviewed). It carries on in the basic silver-black color scheme that we've seen in the previous four roundup notebooks, though this unit features a half-matte/half-glossy finish on the palm rest and areas around the keyboard on the lower deck. Both the top and keyboard decks have an unfortunate tendency to pick up fingerprints and smudges, but a nice touch is that Toshiba provides a microfiber cloth with the unit that you can use to wipe it down (that includes the screen as well).
