Companies like Apple and Archos might dominate the headlines when it comes to media players, but SanDisk and its Sansa line of devices have always performed admirably while maintaining a minimum of software and a relatively low price.
The Clip+, the 8 GB model in this case, is the latest from SanDisk, and it promises to be a great MP3 player for the frugal jetsetter. The tiny (2.16"x1.36"x0.6", 0.85 ounces) Clip+ has 8 GB of internal memory (good for roughly 2000 MP3's), as well as a MicroSD slot for adding up to 32 GB of additional storage. The format support is pretty healthy, as it incudes MP3 as well as OGG, FLAC, Audible and WMA files.
While the audio buff should be satisfied with the aforementioned, the rest of us should be pretty happy with a sub-$60 price point, 15 hours of battery life, an FM tuner, dedicated volume buttons, Mini USB, and a one inch OLED display. And the best part? You don't need a cumbersome program like iTunes to sync the Clip+; simply drag and drop whatever music you want to load on, and you're good to go!

good advice
That Kensington travel charge adapter with USB is a first-generation one; purchased one like that four years ago. The USB-piece is prone to get lost. Current ones have integrated USB ports (not a separate piece) which allow for simultaneous charging of two USB devices and powering an item at the same time. However they only tend to be available from the on-board duty-free of international airlines (seen them available onboard Emirates and LAN)
A cool pair of Audio-Technica ATH-ANC27 Noise Canceling Headphones to listen to your itunes and enjoy the trip.
