Japanese Business Suit Repels Swine Flu, Germs
You're protected against H1N1, and outside odors--except your own.
Everybody wants to stay away from swine flu, but unfortunately, we can't just live our lives stuck inside a bubble (or roll around in public in a bubble, for that matter). Walking around in a hazmat suit probably isn't going to be accepted very well either. So what are we supposed to do? Japanese company Haruyama Trading Co. has the answer with its special suit.
The Telegraph reported that the Haruyama company has created a business suit made of material that is with the chemical titanium dioxide, which reacts to light to break down and kill the virus when it comes into contact with it, according to Junko Hirohata. Titanium dioxide is considered safe as it's commonly found in toothpaste and cosmetics.
News reports are spinning the suit as one that guards against swine flu, or H1N1, but the material's properties are antimicrobial, which will fight many other forms of harmful substances, according to the official press release. The material is also billed to have a deodorant property as well, allowing it repel pet or smoke odor.
The point of the suit, perhaps even more than protecting the wearer, is to prevent the carrying of bacteria and viruses from the external environment into the family household.
50,000 of these suits will be made across the colors medium grey, charcoal, navy and a grey pinstripe. They'll run for 52,290 yen, which is around US$588.

cool but can it run crysis...
anyway got that out of the way. The price is actually pretty good.
Probably worth it if you've ever had a suit ruined by cigarette or cigar smoke. I spend $200-$300 on my business suits (complete not just a jacket). I can see this being a big thing for suit renters too.
But for how long does it keep its germ-fighting properties? After being cleaning X amount of times I'm sure it'll just be a regular suit.
"Titanium dioxide is considered safe as it's commonly found in toothpaste and cosmetics."
Why not make soap with that, then?
let's make food out of Titanium Dioxide
Can it say "maximum armor" and "maximum strength"?
It might say "User Death Imminent" if you get Swine Flu, though.

Actually some candies like M&M´s use Titanium dioxide as a seal for the coloring process.
I bet they company will get sued if someone wearing it gets swine flu.

They do.

Wow! How many washings can it last? ....two? Three? ...One?
No thank you. I prefer a titanium dioxide spray to make all of my clothes (including underwear) ...swine-flu proof.
A flu in the gonads is where most of the protection is needed.
This is like that Simpsons suit that Homer got "Sweat actually cleans this suit"
I've worked in a plastic company... Titanium Dioxide is considered "Potentially Cancerous" in powder form! We had to wear dust masks working with this material, and even then, they had to remove this material from the ingredient list of plastic in 2008!
Don't believe Asian safety rules! The European ISO2008 norm gets only stricter and stricter...
There's a bit of common sense a person has, to know that ANY contact with ANY chemical, is ALWAYS disadvantageous!
A human body is created to interact with bio materials, not chemicals.
A human body is created to interact with bio materials, not chemicals.
So the human body is not suppose to interact with chemicals like water? Oh ok. I'll just remove most of the body weight then.

And Dill Pickle Dip.
Also many cream makeups.
...
And the best fucking type of thermite there is!
Iron oxide + aluminium = awesome.
Tatianium dioxide + aluiminium = !!1337!!.
Puts plain thermite to shame.
=D
So, what's the Return Policy for a defective suit? What? I have to pay for shipping and insurance? #@$!
Can we pitch this to Congress? Hey, instead of a vaccination shot, can I have a suit?
I could actually use that tech. The Micro part of my name not only refers to my stature (short) but also my profession (microbiologist). It would be comforting if our lab coats and even our regular clothes (cause the lab is way too hot for lab coats) had Ti02.
I lived and worked in Japan for three years. After what I saw this development does not surprise me.

Yup - once saw some 'low-cal' blue cheese salad dressing that listed the ingedients as oil, water, emulsifier TiO2 and flavouring - basically cheese flavoured emulsiuon paint
This actually a old tech with a new twist, TiO2-coated self-cleaning windows have been around for quite a long time. The down side of this is that the cleaning / germ killing properties of TiO2 require activation by UV light - so the suit will only work outdoors in the sunshine, not in crowded germ ridden offices and tube trains
So if I smear my regular suit with toothpaste...
OMG, their ridiculous, every health scare they all done particle masks that don't stop anything. I'll bet this is just as ineffective.
Even better, can it enhance my physical capabilities like the acceleration suits in G.I Joe?
