Concept Lamp Doubles as Power Source

Stylish modular lighting and power in one package

At first glance, the Pieletrico concept lamp seems like a typical upright lamp. But with four different ports to accommodate three power plugs and one light, the lighting implement is actually a minimalist space-saving solution.

The idea, according to collaborating designers Catalan de Ocon and Francesco Faccin, is to provide modular versatility. Users can plug in different kinds of lights—some even with their own furnishing—to modify the look or mood as needed. Power cords plugged into the bottom stand naturally flow from the four-tiered construction, bringing potential neatness to normally messy wiring.

Looks good so far, but you can bet any company that picks this system up will try to tie buyers to a proprietary "lighting port" setup. Buyers may have to shell out on accessories to maximize their accessories. Thanks to the circular configuration of the plugs, users may also have to pay for adaptors for bulky and square plugs.

Whatever the case, Pieletrico remains a concept as of this writing. Updates on availability and price—if the lamp stand ever hits the market—to follow.
