A Zune phone or just a WinMo 7 reference hardware spec?
Yesterday we saw a whole bunch of Zune news, much of it being faked from Twitter. But now, the reputable Mary Jo Foley at ZDNet claims to have some preliminary specs for what might be a Microsoft phone.
This is a list of what may or may not be specs of the “Windows Mobile 7 Chassis 1,” which could be the rumored “Pink” Microsoft phone and possibly the reference design of Windows Mobile 7 phones made by other companies.
The core requirements include:
- Processor: ARM v6+, L2 Cache, VFP, Open GL ES 2.0 graphics HW (QCOM 8k, Nvidia AP15/16 [Tegra] and TI 3430 all meet spec)
- Memory: 256MB+ DRAM, 1G+ Flash (at least 512MB fast flash – 5MB/s unbuffered read @4K block size)
- Display: WVGA (800×480) or FWVGA (854×480) 3.5” or greater diagonal
- Touch: Multi-touch required
- Battery: Sufficient to meet Days of Use LTK requirements.
- Controls: Start, Back, Send and End are required (soft controls allowed as long as they are always present).
Other requirements include a 3 MP+ camera, GPS, compass, accelerometer, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi. For a full list, check out ZDNet.

Thanks for finally upgrading the winmo platform. The spec looks somewhat like iphone 3.0.
Hope it REALLY connects to WiFi. I've had WindowsCe/PPC/Windows Mobile devices since the original Dell Axim and none of them will reliably connect to WiFi. They insist on asking questions like "home" or "work", but in reading online forums everybody has problems with this. Even the latest WindowsMobile Pro 6.1 has the same old problem.
Sounds like this will cost over $400. G1 and other Android phones are cheaper.

Yes, I know. I've heard it runs on unicorn pee.

.
isn't this a bit overkill? what if some manufacturer would like to do a smaller device with 3.00 inch display. and the 3MP camera is a bit outdated.

800x480 resolution? That's the same resolution I'm projecting on my 64" screen with an Infocus projector to watch movies. Put the same resolution on a 3.5" screen? Holy sharpness, batman!
Let me guess... it will be for AT&T or Verison ONLY. T-Mobile never seems to get the cool phones. I guess I should just be thankful they have BlackBerry's

Hey, they got the first Android Phone, even if it is a little thicker than (read: twice as) the iPhone. T-Mobile was just a little slow getting their 3G network out, which is probably why they miss out on some of the cool phones.
ZOMG iPhone killer #48!
Holy sharpness, batman!
LOL!
