The Kitesurfer From the Future

Tags:

And by Kitesurfer, we mean "wind-powered hydrofoil"

Looks like kitesurfing on that little ol' board will be so 2010! At least if Designer Jiwon Jung has his way. His kitesurfer concept stretches the definition of the water sport, because instead of a tiny kiteboard, Jiwon wants people to kitesurf in an actual vehicle.

Said vehicle is actually a hydrofoil tied to what must be a massive kite. There's one seat for the driver situated in front of actual controls, with two more seats in the back for passengers. The entire front is protected by a transparent canopy, while the rear completely opens up over some deck space. As with all hydrofoils, this vehicle will most likely rise above the water as it picks up speed.

The whole point of this futuristic kitesurfer hydrofoil is as an eco-friendly and affordable method of moving around. The transportation is meant to exploit the winds prevalent in seaside communities. Sounds good, but just how reliable is the wind as a motive power? And if there are hundreds of these zooming around the same area, isn't there a chance that the kites might end up tangling with each other?

Whatever the case, we'd love to take a ride in one of these babies. No info on a potential retail launch was available, but we can always keep our fingers crossed!
