AT&T Initially Not Selling iPads Until 3G Arrives
AT&T won't sell until the iPad Wi-Fi + 3G arrives.
AppleInsider reports that Apple co-founder Steve Jobs distributed an internal email announcing that the iPad will not be sold by AT&T at launch. The news is surprising given that the communications giant will offer a non-contract 3G service for the Wi-Fi+3G model. However, it may be that AT&T will only sell the 3G version when it launches in late April.
The internal email stems from a query to Jobs regarding the iPad availability at Apple's authorized resellers. "Initially at Apple retail and online stores and Best Buy," he responded. That statement actually clarifies the overall question of who will offer the tablet at launch. Obviously it won't be AT&T.
AppleInsider also lists other emails retrieved from Jobs, highlighting Apple's focus on the iPad as a tool for the enterprise market. One conversation reveals that there will be a way to get documents onto the iPad through iWork.com or the iDisk. Another shows confirmation that the iPhone will eventually receive a universal inbox in its mail client.
The Wi-Fi version of Apple's iPad is expected to be available on April 3. As Jobs indicated, consumers can head to Best Buy or a local Apple Store to pre-order one between now and then. Consumers can also purchase the tablet online.

And let the Iphone/apple haters commence....
After all, AT&T is a communications company. Wi-Fi has nothing to do with them. Why would they carry those?
AT&T does not want to be Apple's big Ipod touch seller.
Well, all I can say is. . . duh. . . why would ATT sell a device for which it cannot sell it's bread and butter. . . data services. Seems reasonable to me.
Nothing to see here folks. . move along.
Why would anybody want to buy an iPad? If I wanted to have a way to surf the net and check my e-mail on a large screen that I can leave on the coffee table or take with me on the train where I convert my lightweight web browser to an e-reader so I can read my favorite books, and then share my favorite photos with people when I get to work, I'm sure I would be better off with some other device or combination of devices not made by Apple. Plus I'd no doubt have a usb drive that I could drool over.

Well, actually they do. The article says they are planning on selling the 3G capable models.
Meh.
Coulod it simply be a minor delay related to ramping up distribution?
Now if only a 3GB/month service in my area didn't cost $65/month...
I doubt Best Buy will have it at launch either. Just took a look at next week's ad and there is no mention of the iPad.
