iPhone 4G in June with Cortex A8, More RAM
The iPhone 4G is expected to launch next month, with Foxconn sending out an initial shipment of 4.5 million units.
Starting the week off with a bang, reports now indicate that the iPhone 4G will be officially unveiled at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference on June 7. It's also reported that Foxconn will begin to ship the device shortly thereafter, initially sending out 4.5 million units and then an additional 19.5 million units for the rest of 2010. Although the news is unconfirmed, it seems somewhat likely given the recent security measures (or a lack thereof) to keep the device under wraps.
On the hardware front, the device will sport 512 MB of memory, twice the amount of RAM found within current iPhone 3GS model. The increase in RAM is said to be due to the multitasking features loaded into the upcoming iPhone OS 4.0 software. Additionally, the new iPhone will use the Arm Cortex A8 and a battery supplied by Simplo Technology and Dynapack International Technology--as reported earlier, this battery will be larger thanks to a 33-percent thinner touch panel.
Additional news about the iPhone hardware has also surfaced, backing up previous rumors regarding its touch-screen display. Apparently the device will have a 960 x 640 resolution and adopt in-plane switching (IPS) panels with fringe-field switching (FFS) technology. This will provide a clearer, crisper output in the sunlight and a much wider viewing angle than seen with prior models. The upgrade is said to be geared towards e-book readers and to help promote the iBooks Store. LG Display and Prime View International are believed to be the suppliers behind the iPhone's new display.
Stay tuned in the next few weeks, as we're sure we'll hear more about what the iPhone 4G may or may not have before it supposedly comes out of its cage in June.

might be worth getting... if it was priced right, but knowing Apple, I think it is more likely that I will see a purple elephant on the street tomorrow!
Starting to get a good idea of what to expect from the 4th generation iPhone and it is looking good. From my personal experience the iPhone 3G S is still the 'snappiest' smartphone to date. The Incredible is a close second but the lack of open/close animations and the SMS scroll lag puts it closely behind the iPhone. Looking forward to seeing more in depth hardware specs when the device is actually released.
It's a great time to be coming off your phone contract. Does anyone know what Sprint has up its sleeve as far as Android devices? They've got a killer $30 data/text only plan (unlimited) that I'd love to sign up for except the Sprint phone lineup pretty much sucks at the moment. (Evo 4G is not what I'm looking for.)
Looks cool...the question is if it will be for AT&T or Verizon?

Yeah. The iPhone 3G and 3G S were crazy expensive compared to phones from other companies like HTC. I mean you can get a Droid Incredible for only $200. Compare that to the outrageously priced iPhone 3G S at $200 and the 3G at $100. But, what can you expect from Apple?
I'm seriously getting tired of all this iphone hype. This is what the original iphone should've looked like and that's what makes the 4g hype boring.
Android 4 Life!
It could be magic, made of gold and cure cancer, still won't get one.
Still using an iPhone 2G so I think it is definitely time for an upgrade!
Two Apple birds (iPhone 4G's) have flown the nest already, 4.5 million more to follow in a month. Too bad they never get a chance to spread their wings... They all get shot down by AT&T.
AT&T only, they are on contract until 2012, then the internet runs out of IP addresses, and then the world ends.
Feel free to correct me if I am on the wrong track here but doesn't it seem a bit ill advised to spend the resources moving to a non-industry standard 960 x 640 resolution if you are going to retain the somewhat small 3.5" screen? Wouldn't most people rather have WVGA and maybe an extra 2 or 3 tenths of an inch of screen real estate if you had to have a tradeoff? How much of a difference can a res bump like that really make on a screen that small?
Flash Support? Or are they expecting everybody on the internet to convert their sites to HTML 5?
I'm up for an upgrade and it would be a nice upgrade from my 3g... but the lack of flash support and not being able to seamlessly surf the internet is a huge down side.
I have a 3G too the comes out of contract end of this month. You won't get Flash on any mobile Apple products, forget it. I'll see what the 4G has to offer but I think I'll be moving to a Desire soon as I prefer the customisability of it.

I think they are trying to differentiate as much as possible between the iPad and iPhone, which leads to the smaller screen size. Just my thoughts on it. And saying the screen is higher resolution than Android doesn't hurt. Without seeing the new iPhone screen, I'd take the Incredible screen right now, it's beautiful.

I'm perfectly fine without flash. In fact if there is not an ability to turn off flash in Android 2.2 I definitely will not be purchasing an Android device.
So that is why the FOXCONN employees are jumping off of their building ... they have been working on an apple project.
I been using 3G for 2 years. Cant say I miss flash much. I can do everything I need to do for a mobile device. If I need to run anything flash related, I have my home PC which is many times more powerful than any Android phone.
Most. Stupid. Screen. Resolution. Ever.
DOWN with APPLE. Just stop, just ignore this EVIL company. Those black turtleneck wearing, prius-driving, green weinies need to get sucker-punched into the abyss. If you are on this site you MUST not fall for the crap Apple peddles!

LOL, you must be new here! This is Apple; before long you will be carrying around an ipad-sized phone, and *thanking* them for the privilege. Industry standards be damned!

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. I guess it's too late for you.
Also, awesome job at generalizing all people who own Apple products. The real world is outside your window, why don't you go out into it.
Perhaps sell my 3GS if this is satisfactory to me..
Apple/Iphone haters make me lol. 99% of them no nothing about a real iphone other than what they read from other negative people and hearsay. I'm not a Apple fanboy but love my 32GB 3GS, everyone I know who has other networks and phones envy mine. With that being said I wish the new Iphone would go with a 4 inch screen or bigger more like the HTC Evo at 4.3 inches. To me its all about screen size then speed and features. I think I will wait till next year if they use the same size screen as mine. Movies and videos on my 3GS look just fine now.
LOL. Voted down because I don't want flash on my device? Sorry guys but I value battery life over web ads and embedded video. I don't need that crap on my mobile phone and never will. Flash is disabled on my desktop because of how annoying rollover ads and video ads are. Crap is annoying and a CPU hog. I don't want it on my desktop and I certainly don't want it on my phone. Sure, there are some sites that I wish I could visit without seeing the "You must install the latest flash player" (Hulu for example) but the negatives of mobile flash overwhelming outnumber the positives of mobile flash. No thanks.
If you want flash that is fine but give me the option to turn it off or don't give it to me at all. Flash is not even on my list of things I look for in a mobile phone.

Agreed. I think its awesome that phones now a days can do so much more than what a phone was capable of 5, or even 10 years ago. But in the end, my phone is a PHONE. If I have the option of playing on it all day, and dying on me when I NEED it, or have it NOT have flash, and other similiar battery draining crap on it.. and have PLENTY of battery when I need it.. I'll take the extra battery life. I don't like the idea of being given the option of all this battery destroying features, and in turn having to charge my phone EVERY day. Gimme a phone that can last a couple days without me needing to worry about recharging, and all the features these "anti-apple/pro-droid" lemmings PREACH about... And I'm game. Until then, shut up. You don't know who I am, and what I choose to, or not to, buy does NOT define who I am, but only what I like. So shove off.
Tayb... +20 in my book.
LOL. Voted down because I don't want flash on my device?
No, you are being voted down because you give negative feedback about a device because it offers features that you choose not to use. Just because you choose not to use certain features does not mean that a product or device is bad for using or offering them to everyone else. If these phone/devices offer features that do not suit you then buy a different product, I am sure you would save a fair amount of money buying a basic model. So stop bitching about things that do not interest you personally.
The Cortex A8 is the same processor as the 3GS -- why no upgrade? The Cortex A9 dual core is out already!!!
I come for the article, I stay for the comments.
Now time to jailbreak this puppy...
If you guys are so smart, how come none of you realizes how crap the Android "os" is with it's crappy java applications. Well, because you are actually quite stupid and you just want an excuse to say Apple sucks, this is the only reason you idiots buy Adroid phones, because it's not made by Apple... How smart is that?? LOL
Actually, I bought an Android phone because:
Better hardware(Resolution, screen size, processor, ram, form factor, removable storage)
Better networks(Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T)
Better OS(multi-tasking, extremely customizable, seamless Google integration, more robust interface, open source)
No gestapo overseer dictating what I can and can't do with my phone
No unnecessary limitations to protect a companies income(Flash restrictions, app restrictions)
Oh, and it's not made by Apple.
Now, why did you get your iPhone? Because it's pretty? Because all of your friends think you are cool?
Yep, I must be stupid.
Jobs is not getting my hard-earned money.
Moving on... using my Nexus one.
And people... get ready to be buried under an iPhone news avalanche again. Just remember what happened with ipad's news. Every little iphone blended or microwaved will be instant news.
Of course, one could never ask for a fair coverage of any other hardware, unless its launched by Apple.
