Google Docs For Android Launched

- By - Source : Google

The software, launched on Wednesday, is basically a stripped down version of the desktop service and consists of tools to view, edit and create text and spreadsheet documents. If you need presentation support, you will have to go with one of the traditional programs such as QuickOffice or DocumentsToGo.

However, the Android version allows people to take pictures of documents and upload them as document. There is even an option to run the document through Google's OCR software and extract the text from it - at least in theory as I did not receive that option during my document uploads.

It is not the most extensive productivity suite you can use on a Google phone, but Docs is enough to have all your cloud documents with you when you need them or even have an ability to create new documents on the road, if you need to.

Umm, Great?
That is great for my son who's high school relies on Google docs.
Bad choice; it crashes 24/7.

If there's an offline-variant, I'd be happier. Data ain't cheap.

It needs offline support. And I can't find the OCR feature either.

The OCR function worked perfectly fine for me. After uploading your photo and accessing it, the original photo appears on the top of the screen and the converted text appears on the bottom of the screen.
