2. Bigheart

The Zen NX still doubles as an external hard drive, now a standard feature, with a storage capacity of 30 GB (2" format). This is enough to store 8000 MP3 items at 128kbps, so you can put most of your CD library in your pocket. It has USB2.0 connectivity for fast transfer - the Zen can send a track to your computer and vice versa in just a few seconds. The integrated Lithium-ion battery ensures not just maximum integration but above all 10 hours of use. What's more, you can now change the battery yourself, an important feature this, because its lifetime only runs to a few years. Windows XP recognizes the Zen as a removable disk with File Manager 2, so it can also be used as a portable hard drive for any type of file. For music, it is compatible with MP3 320kbps, VBR, WMA and WAV. It also works as a flash player. So that sums up its features. It does not record so it can only be used for playing, but we must say it seems pretty well designed for listening on the move and likely to meet all expectations.

Slimming Diet And Facelift

Weight and size have been cut down to achieve some very pleasing vital statistics: 112x75x22mm and 226 grams with the battery. It may not be as small as a flash player, but it still easily fits into a bag or even a big pocket. It has 8 MB of buffer memory to keep it going when you are doing something which might knock it, though, like any HD device, it's better to avoid rough handling. The design has had a complete overhaul to bring it up to date. Its plain rectangular shape is good and convenient and its glossy white and silver finish very attractive. The shell is in anodized aluminum, so it has all the features to compete with the i-Pod, though its rival still has the edge with its touch and play. Never mind, you'll get your money's worth.
