Car Thief Caught While Playing Grand Theft Auto
Grand Theft Auto in real life meets Grand Theft Auto the video game.
Art imitating life, or life imitating art? Chicken or egg? Cause or correlation? The debate rages on, but in the meantime, we're amused by this latest crime story from the Associated Press.
Polk County, Fla. authorities tracking a stolen 1998 Dodge Durango found the SUV outside of 30-year-old Michael Ray Ekes' home on Thursday. When police busted inside Ekes' house, they found him playing – yes, you guessed it – Grand Theft Auto (sadly, the report failed to mention which game from the series or if any DLC was involved).
Ekes was charged with grand theft auto, burglary and drug possession. To add to that, Ekes was out of jail on bond for a previous grand theft auto charge. It seems that Ekes can't get enough of that GTA feeling.

Busted!
"(sadly, the report failed to mention which game from the series or if any DLC was involved)"
I love you guys.
Maybe he should have been playing Madden, that way he wouldn't have gone unsigned again this year.
He probably forgot to save so the car was gone after he got out of the police station IRL...
Great News! I wish they had this on an episode of COPS!
his life is game.....
BTW hate to double post but was he black, russian, italian? This might give us some insight as to what game possessed him.
Some people are just too stupid for their own good.

I've done far worse than that.

Doh
I hope his defense in court is that he thought it was a video game.
He should keep the "Grand Theft Auto" part of his life in the game only! Stealing cars in real life is only going to land you in jail. Not give you some awesome reputition or ego boost.. well maybe for a couple hours until you get caught and put in prison for the next 10 yrs. This guy deserves to be in prison, lets just hope for his sake he likes it in the 4ss.
he forgot to use the cops cheat
he forgot to use the cops cheat
muahahahahaahahahahahahahaaha
in vice city for pc the code was:levemealone- my fav game in the series,
altough to be honest I haven't played gta 4 yet
I guess he wasn't in a safe house
Blame it on the drugs.
i guess his first reaction when the cops arrived was putting in the cheats (prolly saying it in his head for a couple of times) ... and wished it would work.
Busted!
Better than "WASTED!"
bad
Should have gone to the garage and got the plates and colour changed. Cheapskate. It takes 5 seconds on the game!
Will have to kill hookers to make up the money he has lost while in jail.
Thank god he never tried going on a rampage
He didn't have Police cheats enabled...
Good thing is he didn't have six stars wanted.
He probably forgot to save so the car was gone after he got out of the police station IRL...
You sir made my laugh, Awesome.
Nice to see that the police are ensuring morons like this can't breed by throwing them into jail. I guess natural selection hasn't yet been totally eradicated.
