Lite-On Blu-ray Shipments Rising; Quanta to Begin Shipping Slim Drives in Q2
Lite-On IT, the largest Taiwan-based maker of half-height (H/H) optical disc drives (ODDs), witnessed its monthly shipment volume of Blu-ray Disc (BD)-ROM drives increase from less than 10,000 units in the fourth quarter of 2007 to an expected 40,000-50,000 units in March 2008, according to industry sources in Taiwan. Meanwhile, Quanta Storage, the largest Taiwan-based maker of slim-type ODDs, will begin deliveries of slim-type BD-ROM drives as early as in the second quarter of 2008, the sources pointed out.
