DROID BIONIC Officially Invades Verizon
Motorola's DROID BIONIC lands on Verizon Wireless tomorrow, September 8, for $299.99 USD with a two-year subscription.
Wednesday Verizon Wireless said that the new DROID BIONIC smartphone by Motorola will arrive on Thursday, September 8 (tomorrow) for a meaty price of $299.99 USD with a two-year contract.
Also available at launch will be a $299.97 "Lapdock" for turning the phone into a netbook (11.6-inch screen, keyboard, integrated trackpad), a $99.99 HD Station accessory with USB ports allowing users to connect peripherals like a keyboard, a mouse and a printer, and the $29.99 Adapter for Webtop Application which allows BIONIC users to create, edit or share pictures, videos and PowerPoint presentations when connected to an HDTV or monitor. And for a limited time, customers who purchase a Lapdock with the DROID BIONIC will receive a $100 mail-in rebate when subscribing to a $50, 5 GB data plan or higher.
On the hardware level, the DROID BIONIC sports a 4.3-inch qHD screen using scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass with dual-layer anti-reflective coating, a dual-core 1 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, an 8MP autofocus camera with flash and 1080p HD video capture, a front-facing camera for video chat over 4G LTE, 3G or Wi-Fi, and 32 GB of storage (16 GB on board and 16 GB microSD card pre-installed).
The DROID BIONIC also supports HTML 5, wireless charging and Mirror Mode, the latter of which allows users to connect the phone to an HDMI-capable display for 1080p HD video playback – it even offers multi-window options for multitasking when using the Webtop application. The phone will also come pre-installed with a MOTOPRINT app to print via Wi-Fi-enabled printers, Adobe Flash, Citrix GotoMeeting and Citrix Receiver for Android, Firefox 4.0, ZumoCast by Motorola and more. As previously reported, the OS of choice is Google's Android 2.3.4 "Gingerbread."
"DROID BIONIC is the first Verizon Wireless smartphone to combine 4G LTE with the power of dual-core 1 GHz processors, 1 GB of RAM and a stunning 4.3-inch qHD display – all in a sleek form factor that makes it the thinnest 4G LTE smartphone from Verizon Wireless," the company said. "Customers can expect to fly across the Web on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network with download speeds of 5 to 12 Mbps and upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps in 4G LTE mobile broadband coverage areas."
Verizon requirements for the hot-n-tasty new DROID BIONIC include a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk plan beginning at $39.99 for 450 minutes per month, and a smartphone data package starting at $30 monthly access for 2 GB of data. Verizon Wireless Mobile Hotspot data plans are available beginning at $30 for 2 GB.
A $39.99 Vehicle Navigation Dock and a $49.99 Battery Dock will also be available to purchase at launch, Verizon said.

Nice phone, but $300?!!?! I can only imagine how much the Nexus Prime is going to cost.
That's an awful lot of dollar signs in this news article. And most of them do not seem worth it to me, this phone strikes me as relatively ordinary these days.
I think this and the Atrix are the only two phones which rightfully reserve a spot in the superphone category.
I think it would be wise to reserve judgement until we see battery life numbers. 4G is great unless it comes at a cost of draining the battery in a couple hours..
$300 + $100 (at least) per year = $2700+ to be an "it" person. I'm glad I'm not an idiot.
That's a lot of money, especially the contract. If it were $300 dollars and no contract I might consider it but as it is... forget about it. Contracts are for suckers.
Never ever did like Motorola much at all.
This phone is severely limited by "$30 monthly access for 2 GB of data".
The LTE speed will zip through 2GB of data in 2 days maybe.
I love my Atrix. Very similar specs to this phone except it has the dual core Tegra 2 processor.
The only problem with Atrix is AT&T and their version of 4G.
No thanks, Motorolla phones have locked bootloaders...

Not if you still have the Unlimited Data plan like me and my fiance do...

Contracts get you discounted services and hardware... I'll be getting this for $199 with all my discounts for my fiance.

Dual core processor, LTE, 4.3-inch qHD Gorilla Glass display...yeah really ordinary.
This is the best Android device on the market at the moment. That being said... I'll never buy one I love BlackBerry...LOL
Waiting for the comparison with the Prime. Reviews thus far have been quite good though.
I love advances in technology! On the other hand, my wallet doesn’t.

Same here....

Did you forget about the Galaxy s2 ?
which, ofcourse, totally blows the atrix out of the water.
Like the rest of these posts,I think I will stay clear of Motorola!
This is the next best phone. On Verizon is the only best>Verizon is not getting a Samsung Galaxy S2
Motorola is own by google now. So if you getting an Android, Motorola is the way to go. They will be the first in line to get any updates.
if you weren't forced to pay for a voice plan and just pay per minute then that would be much better. No reason to have voice plans anymore when data can do everything. This is how these companies make their money.
Frankly that's rather expensive. Android might be popular but individually, these models don't have the allure of the iPhone, sadly.
All of the 4g phones opened at 299, the thunderbolt was on a special the first couple of weeks for 249, but you will easilly be able to pick this guy up for 249 as well. Also, I have to tell you, MOST people on Verizon have unlimited data, only since July 1st have the limited data plans been in effect, and upgrading your device doesnt change your data plan. @Toastninja; The Photon = This phone - 512mb ram(who cares). It's a full generation over the tbolt, if it didnt perform better there would be a serious issue. I personally want an HTC Vigor, but until that or the Samsung Prime comes out, the most powerful phones are the Galaxy S2 and this guy.. But the differences are very subtle. So really, this is simply the beginning. Look up the Vigor, seems good.
Not sure how they can charge for hotspot which is a feature of the phone
if you already have a data plan how could they know you are tethering ?
Are they monitoring the type of content ? sounds fishy to me....
Custom ROMS ? stealing from you what was already there in the first place ?
I WANT ONE!! Now all I have to do is figure out how to get out of my At&t contract...
Just went and saw it in person. That phone is making it really difficult for me to wait for the Prime. Good job Moto.
So, no sliding keyboard? Too bad. I like the feel of the keys of a sliding keyboard, as well as the fact that the keyboard doesn't take up screen space.
if this had a keyboard i would want one.
also, wifi tethering is free if your phone is rooted.
Just bought one, my nokia e71 is giving me fits. Can't wait for the prime. Wife also gets 22% discount via her work. Hope I like it.
Samsung Galaxy S II retails for $800 and is unlocked, I dont think any carrier sells this at a discount with a contract. That is way overpriced when similar dual core smartphone are very reasonablly priced lower and you can get a discount from the carriers with contracts. Verizon is way overpriced and their 4g LTE is overkill.
