Pandemic Pumping Out New Mercenaries Game
The remaining staff of Pandemic Studios is now working on a multiplayer sandbox Mercenaries game.
Fans of the Mercenaries and Star Wars: Battlefront series have probably kept a close eye on the news as of late after recent events. A few days ago, Electronic Arts revealed that 1,500 jobs were terminated within the company, causing a complete shutdown of Mercenaries developer Pandemic Studios, laying off 228 employees.
The developer wasn't completely dead however, with the remaining 25 Pandemic employees being assimilated into the EA Collective. The small developer remnant would thus continue work on The Saboteur and an unannounced project now revealed today: Mercs Inc. According to Pandemic, this will be a multiplayer sandbox game based on the Mercenaries franchise.
“We are very excited to announce a new installment in the popular Mercenaries series because it demonstrates our continued commitment to Pandemic’s rich catalogue of intellectual properties,” said Nick Earl, Senior VP and Group General Manager at EA. “From the studio at EALA, a core creative team is forging new ground and conceptualizing new ideas for this exciting franchise.”
Currently the Pandemic remnants are finishing up with its other action-sandbox game, The Saboteur, set to hit the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on December 8. For now, Pandemic is not releasing platform(s) and ship date information for Mercs Inc. In the meantime though, check out this "pitch demo" sporting plenty of multiplayer sandbox action that only the Mercenaries franchise can provide.

all of you are gay.
all of you are gay.
I LOL'ed... and no, I'm not gay... unless you mean Gay-Happy, which I suppose is true now that you made me LOL. In that case, then Yes, I'm Gay now.

I whole heartily agree
Lol if i had that job they were talking about... those posts would be gone... they contribute nothing to this board.
Anyways should be exciting what they come up with.
More of the same. EA acquires franchise, fires the people who came up with it, then announces excitement about their commitment to the franchise and that they will continue using it. I have no real opinion about this current move, but in general I bet it's pretty frustrating to be one of the originals...

You say it like it's a bad thing
"OH NO OH NO OH NOOOOOOOOO"
Well, Mercs 2 was pretty fun online. I randomly just raced around the world with a guy on a bike. I later then went with a different guy to a HVT, and when he dropped down nearby, I threw my helicopter at the HVT and bailed.
Fun times. =D
Mercs 2 was disastrously bad. It felt like an unfinished, unpolished, glitchy mess, the real shame being that the first Mercs was one of my favorite Xbox titles. It's honestly hard to get excited when garbage gets a sequel.
Too bad it's probably going to suck ass on PC. I'm tired of all the good games getting the console treatment.
Waiting for Battlefield: Bad Company 2. I predict it'll last a while on PC, but I could be wrong.
