Motion Control Comes to Nintendo DSi
Motion sensing control is coming to the Nintendo DSi.
Like HD 3D, tablets, and e-readers, motion sensing technology has been a frequented topic of late thanks to a spark ignited by Nintendo's Wii console. Sony and Microsoft both are catching on and offering solutions this year; Razer follows suit by offering motion sensing control to PC gaming in 2010 as well. And what of portable gaming? That seemed out of the question... or so we thought.
Apparently Netherlands-based game developer Engine Software is working on motion sensitivity for the Nintendo DSi. According to Joystiq, the technology takes advantage of the handheld console's camera in order to achieve the tracking of motion. As of this writing, the company has provided a demo video (seen below) using the game TILT to illustrate that motion sensitivity actually works.
"By no means is [the video] meant as a gameplay demonstration," the voice-over explains. "The tilting technology as used in this prototype can be applied to many different game designs." The video briefly shows a player tilting the DSi from side to side in order to move the ball along a curving path.
Engine Software is supposedly working on a DSiWare game that will incorporate the company's motion sensing middleware, however no release date or price was given.

Can anyone actually take the DS seriously?
Can anyone actually take the DS seriously?
It's just another Gameboy to me, I grew up and moved to PC. But I can't lie, I still appreciate it when I settle in for some Final Fantasy or Legend of Zelda on long trips.
On another note, when do I get SNES emulators for my Android? Imagine that, *POOF* No more need for silly Gameboys anymore...
Uhmm... Video link fail?

Oh Great, just friggin' Great!
Now we'll see kids on the street and in street acting all spastic and freaking out and people looking at them will wonder what the 'ell is Wrong with them, not realizing that they are playing with a DSi.
Oh wait, aren't kids already like that these days any how without the DSi?
Another time I could have used edit.
I meant to say on the streets and in school acting all spastic and freaking out.
On another note, when do I get SNES emulators for my Android?
Wow I should have Googled before I spoke... I had no idea there were so many different emulators for Android! Now if only I had HP's Android slate I'd be in business!
This won't work.
Why? Because portable is what it is. Portable. Users are using their palm on the actual console, moving it alot while pressing buttons, d-pad or stylus. It isn't STABLE so motion will be inaccurate or very jerky.
dsi is great downtime entertainment... if u have 30 mins and u have nothing to do, its perfect
Can anyone actually take the DS seriously?
123 million DS owners say yes.
It does not seem that new when you read the comments at the url provided.
There has been motion control for Gameboy Advanced games before and unofficial DScard for motion control too, cf. another article from the same Joystick website http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2007/0 [...] available/ ... from Jan 2007.
It seems that the only missing thing is real games for the DS that use that.
Some one could at least do some port of iphone/ipodTouch games to DS ;-)
