LG Reveals World's Thinnest LCD TV, Again
LG Display's Extreme Slim is extremely slim.
Xinhua reports that LG Display has developed what it calls the "world's thinnest LCD panel," measuring only 0.102-inches thick. Labeled as the "Extreme Slim," the LCD panel uses LG Display's propriety optical film technology and an ultra-thin, edge-lit light emitting diode backlighting system.
"Through the development of the world's thinnest LED LCD TV Panel, LG Display demonstrated its ability to lead customer trend in the high resolution and slim design market," Chung In-jae, LG Display's Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President told local media.
According to the report, LG Display's new 42-inch Extreme Slim weighs less than 8.8 pounds and offers a native 1080p resolution. It also provides a tasty 120 Hz refresh rate to reduce annoying burring via fast movements, and to increase overall picture detail. Xinhua added that the new display takes the "thinnest" crown away from Samsung Electronics, whose "Needles Slim" LCD panel measures just 0.15-inches thick.
The company plans to display the Extreme Slim LCD panel next month at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

but can it play crysis?
cost? until its a reasonable price, nobody will care.
but can it play crysis?
Enough with the Crysis comments already, the joke is DEAD! Find something new.
I can't see it.
Wondering if I can tape/velcro it to the wall instead of mounting it with screws?
If it's light, then why couldn't you tape it to the wall.
Don't have to screw the wall, they have had enough abuse, lol.
Wondering if I can tape/velcro it to the wall instead of mounting it with screws?
Why not use the hercules Hooks! One of the fastest and easiest ways to hang just about anything!
Ok dumb jokes aside, thats one hell of thin display.
Thank God it's .05 inches thinner than the Sammy. That's going to make a huge difference for me...
omg I have such a boner right now,
I want that tv
just gotta wait to drop in price I guess, since i'm sure it's way too expensive....

i want that girl
any thiner and these tv's will be able to cut something.
In before the haters start hating about the "burring" typo.
Wondering if I can tape/velcro it to the wall instead of mounting it with screws?
More importantly: Even if you could velcro it to the wall, would you want to?
I wouldn't.
So how thick is it with the hdmi cable sitting out the back of it? just wondering why I want a tv that is .10whatever thick when Im going to be sticking an hdmi cable out the back?
Give me a thicker TV with LED lights in an array for darker darks(yes even blacks that are not Grey-purple) and brighter brights over this any day.
Give me a choice between a 10cm thick screen with a sublime picture and a 10mm thick screen with a mediocre picture and I'll pick the thicker one every time.
these tv's should have an integrated wireless hdmi/AV input of some sort or else what's the point...
I'd take an LCD with a smaller border or no border at all over a "thin" panel.
At this thickness they probably need some sort of breakout box for connections. Most typical connectors found on TV are too big to fit at this thickness, unless there's a space reserved for connections where the TV is thicker.
Thank God its 120 Hz, I HATE those annoying burrs.

my God... how much must LCD tech have stalled for Thinness to be the only notable advances lately... even more worrying is people who would care more about this than picture quality improvements
Darn, that TV is thick!
I'm waiting for poster sized TV's!
What would be great is if these new TVs could be wireless. That would make wall mounting much easier. I don't see that happening even if they had the tech because Hollywood would freak about loss of control.

Can it play ARMA2?....
For those that have seen the benches, you need a monster of a rig to run it due to poor coding.
normally thinner would be a bad thing..........
but can it play crysis?
translation. im a virgin
Enough with the Crysis comments already, the joke is DEAD! Find something new.
its not so much dead, more it has mutated into more of a practical joke.
i.e. seeing people get pissed off at it is funny. to some people...
I am confused...
Why is this TV coming out when it will just be cheaper to buy an LED at the same thickness?
but can it play crysis?
What about the Will it blend? joke.
Seriously, I bet the will it blend guy can make one hell of a day with his blender and this TV.
It is surely thin. A couple ofcommenters here are right to say that we could prefer more advanced and better features over an anorexic TV. So what's the deal with the my-tv-on-diet competition? I think the point being proven is smaller components and smaller manufacturing processes. It shows off that certain companies have a more full featured manufacturing line. I mean, look at how thin it is, it is a result of an overall manufacturing process.
Again it is just my opinion, I just don't know too much about things like this, so someone with some experience with this is very welcomed to enlighten me on more objective points.
awesome.. that's why i say.. there must be more than just Microsoft and apple in the PC market.. more competition more innovation.. happy end users.. wealthy manufacturers...
thanks, but i'll hang onto my plasma panel and enjoy actual quality for now until the OLED tv's are affordable and sizes are nice and big.
