Emperor Workstation Looks Like Battledroid

- By - Source : Tom's Guide US

For PC consumers (like Tuan) who have an extra $5,000 sitting on the shelf like that creepy little stack of money in the Geico commercials, the Emperor 1510 may be the ticket to either geek heaven or utter lazyville. We're betting the former, as this PC station looks like something ripped out of a Star Wars movie (hence the title's Battledroid reference). Do we want one? Certainly. But honestly... $5k is better spent on a smoking hot gaming rig.

Still, NovelQuest's design doesn't hurt the eyes despite the pain in the wallet. The station provides a scorpion-like appearance with the tail curving over the chair, providing a 3-screen display that should make it a must for PC gamers wanting to bathe in ATI's Eyefinity technology. The entire structure is comprised of a handmade Canadian steel frame, and includes a 15-degree tilting capacity--forward and backward--to make you feel as if you're in the cockpit of a starship's laser turret.

To make its user feel nice and comfy, there's an adjustable keyboard tray to lock the user down, and a nice adjustable seat and leg rest to keep the circulation moving (somewhat). LED lights line the "scorpion tail" above the seat, and the input and output ports for a PC or Mac are located below the seat. Consumers can chose different configurations, including a custom color seat, a choice between single or triple monitors, three types of sound configurations, and more.

Does it look awesome? It certainly does, and makes PC gaming look even more enticing. While the $5,000 starting price is a bit steep, NovelQuest offers a pricier version called the Emperor 200. This one looks a bit more monstrous, and costs a whopping $40,000.

I highly doubt that I would be doing work in that thing.

The 40k one looks like something that Dr. Evil would make a ransom demand for "100 BILLION dollars" from...

The $40k version of this is absolutely amazing. Unfortunately it'll have to sit on my waiting to win the lottery list.

Daily Planet, a Discovery Channel Canada television show, did a piece on this a while before Christmas. It is really impressive, even cup holders can be put in! Do a search there for the clip if it's still on their site.

hopefully the higher end model will drop in price. If not 5k isn't that bad. Too bad this is such a niche market b/c I would really like to see someone else compete for my 5k.

Once a girl comes to your bachelor pad and sees you own this thing I am sure she will be all over you... Or maybe not :).

Actually, "battle droid" is a catch all term that covers all droids designed for war, so a droideka IS a battle droid, you seem to have assumed that the term battle droid can only be used when referencing a B1 model.

< Drool > looking at the setup, it's very possible to build something like this yourself if you're handy with tools. The seat pictured looks like the red one on this page.

Plus if you have access to a metal shop, you could fabricate the rest of the frame work including the arms holding the monitors.

I can just see it now, having something like this in my living room with a swivel base. My wife would kill me! :D

Is it just me or did I see Taco Bell as one of NovelQuest's customers?

Anyways I wouldn't mind having one of these, would be one hell of an experience.

I would love to see you try to put something as nice as this together for under a thousand dollars.

I'm a carpenter and i made ALL the furniture in my house figure i saved myself around 50k the way i have my house. But then again i dont think i could craft that out of wood for under 5k.

No cup holders. Fail. On a slightly less flippant note, if I were to build this I would probably use steel tubes to construct the frame but with the addition of a 3d motorized gimble mount so I could realize my old school dream of replicating the "Descent" cockpit environment.
