3D Camcorder is Somewhat Affordable
DXG's upcoming 3D camcorder won't be as pricey as Panasonic's monster.
Last week we reported that Panasonic was showcasing the world's first, Full HD 3D camcorder. While the idea of making 3D home movies is more appealing than ever, the cost of Panasonic's innovative device wasn't geared for Walmart shelves. In fact, it was revealed to cost a whopping $21,000 USD... not quite consumer friendly.
However, there is hope for home-grown, inspiring directors. Dvice reports that DXG is gearing up to release a 3D camcorder--the DXG 3DView--that's not quite so expensive. Due to hit shelves in June, this $400 device features a pistol-like grip and a dual lens stereoscopic 3D View setup. The device also comes packed with a rotating 3-inch 3D LCD viewfinder LCD, and an additional 7-inch digital video viewer to display the videos to friends and family.
According to hands-on impressions at CES 2010, the VGA 3D video actually looked "cool," sporting a holographic effect. The 3D camcorder also uses the standard Motion JPEG file format, and it's believed that the 3D effect can't be viewable on any device outside the DXG hardware. If that's the case, don't expect 3D videos to appear on YouTube until someone figures out how to export the video intact.
Currently DXG hasn't released anything official in regards to the 3D camcorder. Hopefully more official details will appear soon. For now, at least, there's still some hope in recording 3D video without having to sell all of your possessions and live on the street in a box.

Well, if it's really important that you record 3D video with Panasonic's monster than you better ANNY-UP BITCH! It OBVIOUSLY isn't for mainstream markets. Just like, Ferrari's, Porsche's and Geenie's...
I really don't see this trend lasting. But if it does, the price HAVE TO come down fast...like cut in half every year for the next 5 years.
It'll only be cool if I can get an R2-D2 to display my holographic movies on the table....
if its available. I'd buy one here
Its good to have. but I would say, people who buy this will definitely buy a high-end model when its affordable.
does that mean people will have to wear special glasses to see the videos in 3d?
the product wont catch on if it requires that
Just what the world needs, multiple 3D standards, or not even standards at this point. Hasn't the tech industry realized that one good tech will sell better than many great tech's?
Everything on Tom's is "whopping...[price]", and "measly...[price]", are you guys running your write-ups through some sort of text filter to increase the overall wordiness and size of each post?
