Fall is the perfect season to update your wardrobe for the colder, wetter months. The bright orange and red of autumn leaves, the magical sunsets, and the urge to spend more time outdoors make it a wonderful time to be outside, but with occasional showers and chillier air, having the right clothing is key to fully enjoying it.

If you’re familiar with the essentials you need to pack before hiking in bad weather, you’ll know that waterproofs are always a must, even when the morning forecast promises blue skies. On that note, if you’re looking for a reliable pair of waterproof hiking pants, I can help. The pair I’ve packed for every hike and trip this year is the Columbia Women’s Leslie Falls Pull-On Pant, and right now they’re 43% off at Amazon.

I’ve linked the Amazon deal because the Leslie Falls pants are currently sold out on Columbia’s site. However, if you’re after a plus size in these versatile walking pants, they are available directly from Columbia in three colors at 40% off.

The Leslie Falls Pull-On Pant are incredibly comfortable thanks to their lightweight design and soft, adjustable waistband that I could rave about for days. They’re fully weatherproof, offering protection from water, wind, and sun.

But before you buy, you’re probably looking for more reasons to trust that these pants are genuinely worth it. I don’t know what kind of climate you live in, but where I’m from the weather is unpredictable, so I never head out for a walk or hiking trip without packing waterproof pants. The Leslie Falls Pull-On Pants are almost too packable. I often forget they are tucked at the bottom of my hiking bag, folded up like a little fabric croissant.

My most recent trip was a camping weekend in Scotland's Highlands, where unsurprisingly, it rained nonstop. But my legs stayed cozy and dry inside my favorite Columbia pants from the bottom of the mountains to the peaks. Also, when I let them air-dry overnight in the tent and put them on the next day, they didn't feel damp or smelly despite the cold, wet conditions in our tent.

I also have to rave to you about the waistband. Sitting mid-waist, it works perfectly with both longer and slightly cropped tops. It's the one part of the pant that is not waterproof, and instead made from a soft, stretchy fabric that feels ridiculously comfortable around the stomach.

That reliable comfort continues once you hit the trails. I am prone to wandering off-piste on hikes, and I have hiked through some seriously boggy terrain in the Leslie Falls Pull-On Pant. Yet they come out of deep layers of mud dry and easy to wipe clean on the move. They are also simple to machine wash, which is a lifesaver after a long hiking trip when all you want to do is toss your mucky kit in the machine and not worry about hand washing.

Finally, they have a more casual look, so you can wear them off-trail too. Maybe you are headed on a holiday where the forecast looks showery, but you don't want to look like you are about to summit Mount Everest in your waterproof gear. These pants have you covered.
