I've tried dozens of workout shirts, but the only shirt I keep in my daily rotation is the Hanes Cool Dri Performance T-Shirt. I know, Hanes isn't a brand you think of when it comes to exercising, but I've found this shirt is great for strength training because it keeps me dry at the gym and most importantly — it outperforms some of the pricier $70+ workout shirts I've tried.
Right now, you can get the Hanes Cool Dri Performance T-Shirts 2-Pack for just $18 at Amazon. That comes out to $9 per shirt. This is a no-brainer purchase for anyone who's tired of overpaying for workout apparel. (For more deals, check out our Amazon Big Spring Sale live blog).
The Hanes Cool DRI Workout Shirts are my go-to shirts for weight training. They're made of moisture-wicking material, so they keep you dry and don't weigh you down. I've found them to be more reliable than pricier $79 workout shirts. However, be warned that if you do HIIT/cardio workouts and sweat a lot, they're not as great.
The shirts are also available for women. You can buy one shirt for $13 or get this 5-pack for $29, which amounts to about $5 per shirt.
So what's so great about this shirt. First, it's made of what Hanes calls a "cool-dri" fabric that feels cool to the touch and wicks away moisture when things get heated. It does a better job than my Lululemon License to Train Shirt ($78), which costs significanly more. It's also lightweight, unlike other jerseys which can feel heavy at times.
The shirt offers a slightly roomy cut and I like that it runs a bit long. As someone who's 6'3", that means I can do pull-ups and deadhangs without feeling like I'm exposing my midriff to my fellow gym-goers. As an added perk, it also offers 40+ UPF protection, so you could wear these shirts when running errands on weekends or during the summer if you happen to be strolling down the boardwalk.
That said, if you're a heavy sweater or you're training in zone 5, I'd look for a better shirt. I sweat like a maniac and I find Hanes' technology simply can't keep up when I'm running or doing HIIT. So I wind up with a heavy, sweaty shirt that sticks to my body. (Soccer jerseys like this one from Adidas do a much better job). But for strength training and light chores — this is your shirt.
