Affordability without compromising performance

There's no denying that we are big fans of Dell laptops. The fact that two of their models occupy positions in our best laptops guide is evidence of that. One of those is the Dell XPS 13, which we've crowned the winner of the best budget Windows category.

In our in-depth testing we praised its strong performance, thin and light design, vibrant high-resolution display, and incredible battery life. The fact that you can enjoy all this and more for just $699.99 is hard to believe. And if you're a student, it'll only cost you $599.99.

The XPS 13 won't suit everyone, though. The 13-inch display has the benefit of portability, but it might be too small for some. In that case, let me point you in the direction of the Dell 16 for $1,149.99. This affordable laptop features solid specs with 8 GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

The XPS 13 is a super all-rounder that works on so many levels. First up, at just 2.2 lb (1.0 kg) and 12.7 mm (0.5 in), it is the thinnest and lightest XPS ever built. Secondly, it features a 13.4-inch 2560×1600 touch display, which is ideal for all types of work. Finally, it boasts an Intel Core CPU for excellent performance.

If you need a similar spec but a much larger display, then the Dell 16 is worth a look. We've not yet reviewed it, but Dell claims it offers "effortless productivity and captivating entertainment." Aside from processing power, the 16-inch display is one of its main highlights with FHD+ resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio.
