Google launches repair program for major Pixel 9 Pro screen issues — as Pixel 10 users report a new display bug
Google is certainly having a tough time when it comes to display issues with its Pixel phones.
The good news is that Google has announced a new "Extended Repair Program" for the Google Pixel 9 Pro, Google Pixel 9 Pro XL and the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. According to the announcements, the program will cover certain display issues, which for the Pixel 9 Pro series include flickering displays or a line running from the top to the bottom of the screen.
Unfortunately, the post regarding the Pixel 9 Pro Fold doesn't detail what faults could be affecting Google's foldable. However, a later FAQ on the post seems to indicate that the issue is also based on the phone's display, as it mentions including coverage for phones that paid for a screen replacement prior to December 8, 2025.
There are some conditions to keep in mind before you look to Google for a solution for your flickering screen. Primarily, as with any warranty, any physical or liquid damage will immediately disqualify your device. The extended plan also only covers your phone for three years from when you purchased it as new, so it likely will not cover second-hand devices.
The next thing to note is that the warranty for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold specifies replacing the device if an issue is present. Meanwhile, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL post only mentions repairing the phone. So, if you don't have a foldable phone, you're not likely to get a new Pixel 9 Pro if there is an issue.

Pixel December update brings new display woes for Pixel 10
Google offering an extended warranty for the older Pixel 9 Pro will certainly be appreciated, but it will be of little help to Pixel 10 owners. Unfortunately, the recent December update has caused an issue for Google's new devices.

In a recent Reddit post, user tstrmr reported that their Google Pixel 10 Pro XL would randomly become unresponsive after downloading the update. According to the post, the phone's touchscreen becomes unresponsive if the device is left sitting on a table for long periods of time.
It is noted that the buttons all work, including being able to open the phone's camera through double pressing the power button. This indicates that it's not a complete crash. Oddly, it seems the problem does not occur if the Pixel 10 Pro XL is in a pocket and the user is moving around.
Other users have reported a similar issue on their Google Pixel 10 phones, meaning this isn’t limited to a single device. It appears the only solutions for the problem are either to completely reboot the phone or, as some users have noted, turn off the always-on display. At a glance, I would imagine this is a code-based issue with the December update. However, one user in the post does mention encountering this issue before, so it might be older than that.
Regardless of when it occurred, it is an issue that we would hope Google has a fix for, or at least has plans for one beyond the January update. However, there is no word from Google on a possible solution, and we will provide an update as we hear more.
Until then, let us know if you have been affected by the reported problems, especially if it was before the December update, and what you have done to solve them.
