Panda London, the maker of some of our favourite sleep accessories, has launched its first mattress. This brand is known for blending science and nature by using bamboo as a key material in its products. You'll find it in everything from Panda's pillows to its bed sheets, and it's the star of the brand's ultra-breathable Panda Hybrid Bamboo Mattress.

Bamboo is kind of incredible as a material. It's naturally antibacterial and hypoallergenic, has temperature-regulating properties, and is very sustainable as a resource, too. But alongside all those practical things, when woven into a textile it's soft, smooth and feels ultra-luxurious. All of which makes it a perfect choice for sleep accessories. Unsurprisingly, more and more companies have cottoned on to the possibilities of this wonder-material, and it has boomed in popularity worldwide. Panda is one of the brands to really celebrate the magic of bamboo, using it in innovative ways across its ever-growing range, and scooping up awards along the way.

The sleep specialists at Panda took their time perfecting every layer of the Hybrid Bamboo Mattress. The final, UK-made, six-layer design has been carefully engineered to deliver an ultra-restful night's sleep; one that's equal parts comfortable, cool and supportive. Let's take a closer look at the standout features.

Bamboo-infused foam for freshness

The star of the show is the newly developed 'BioCell Foam', which infuses third-gen memory foam with a touch of bamboo. What's special about this foam is that it has an open-cell makeup that will ''breathe' with you and allow fresh air to flow through the mattress. Overheating is one of the main enemies of uninterrupted sleep, but this bed is designed to help you sleep nice and cool, even in the hottest months. It's naturally antibacterial and odour-resistant, too, so you're getting maximum freshness here.

In fact, the BioCell layer is not the only place that Panda has harnessed the power of bamboo in this mattress. The whole thing is topped off with a super-soft, hypoallergenic bamboo cover, which can be zipped off for easy washing.

Orthopaedic-grade spinal support

The mark of a great mattress is that it's cushioned enough to relieve pressure on your joints and feel comfortable to lie on, while at the same time delivering adequate support for long-term spinal health. "Finding a mattress that provides structural integrity without compromising on comfort is key, to ensure deep restful sleep and spinal support," says mobility coach Matt Cunningham.

To that end, Panda London has added a layer of high-density, orthopaedic-grade 'OrthoAlign Foam™' that moulds slightly to your body and holds your spine in healthy, neutral alignment all night. This sits on top of a layer of individually enclosed, full-size pocket springs. These are zoned for optimal comfort, but also help absorb motion, so if you have a restless bed-mate, their wriggling won't ruin your rest.

A sturdy, no-slip base

At the bottom of the mattress, you'll find a layer of high-density memory foam to distribute your body weight evenly, and catch any excess movement that makes it through the top three tiers. This is ultra-durable and very resilient, for many years of comfort and support. Finally, an anti-slip layer keeps your mattress securely in place as you rest.

As a brand, Panda is known for its dedication to a sustainable working approach – its production process aims to be as eco-friendly as possible, from forest to front door. Every year, 7.5 million mattresses end up in landfill in the UK – an issue that the brand wanted to ensure it wasn't contributing to. Once your new mattress has been delivered to your room of choice, Panda will remove your old mattress, for free, and ensure it's recycled properly.

The brand has also engineered its mattresses so that they, in turn, can be disposed of responsibly, via the brand's Circle of Life initiative. "We are passionate and proactive about resolving this serious international problem. Setting these new standards in our industry will encourage others to follow suit," says a spokesperson.

The Panda Hybrid Bamboo Mattress is available to buy now. Each mattress comes with a 100-night sleep trial, which you can use to make sure this is the perfect bed for you, and comes backed with a 10–year guarantee, too. Head to the Panda London website to find out more.
