3 new to Prime Video thriller movies to watch this week — and one of them is a twisty mystery from my favorite director (April 7-13)

Every week, I’m on the hunt for the latest thrillers added to Prime Video. The genre is a personal favorite of mine, and considering new thrillers always seem to do very well on the platform and regularly rank in the top 10 (see the current No. 1 movie “Crime 101” as the latest proof), clearly I’m not alone.

To save you the trouble of having to scroll through the dozens of movies added to Prime Video at the start of April 2026, I’ve put in the legwork and found a trio of worthwhile thrillers that recently made their streaming home on the Amazon-owned service. These include the finale (for now) of the “Mission: Impossible” series, a twist-fueled puzzlebox from David Fincher, my personal favorite filmmaker, and a historical thriller based on real events.

'Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning' (2025)

All good things must come to an end, and that includes rip-roaringly enjoyable blockbuster franchises like “Mission: Impossible.” For now, at least, “The Final Reckoning” appears to be the conclusion of this spy action series.

If this 2025 effort truly marks Ethan Hunt’s final mission, it’s a satisfying ending for America’s answer to James Bond (Hunt beats Bourne, don't @ me). It does have to pay for the sins of its convoluted predecessor, 2022’s “Dead Reckoning." However, after a course-correcting openning chapter, it gains momentum with several thrilling high-concept stunt sequences.

With a powerful artificial intelligence known as the Entity taking control of the global intelligence network, and posing a threat to all of humanity, it’s up to Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF (Impossible Mission Force) team to track down a so-called “Poison Pill” that is believed to be the only way to stop the Entity from taking over the world. “The Final Reckoning” is worth watching for its delightfully intense submerged submarine scene alone.

'The Game' (1997)

David Fincher, the genius filmmaker behind “Fight Club, “Seven,” “Gone Girl,” and more, is my favorite director, and while “The Game” is not Fincher’s finest hour, it’s still a deliciously twisty mystery thriller starring Michael Douglas and Sean Penn. It’s a thriller that centers on a thick sense of paranoia, and after watching, you might find yourself checking over your shoulder as you go about your everyday life. Granted, the final reveal is a little ludicrous.

Nicholas Van Orton (Douglas) is a successful San Francisco banker, but his cold attitude and loner lifestyle have left him with no friends or loved ones to celebrate his 48th birthday. This birthday is grimly significant as it sees Nicholas turn the same age his father was when he committed suicide. To mark the occasion, his brother Conrad (Penn) gives Nicholas a voucher that entitles him to play a mysterious game which slowly infects his life. I could reveal more, but to enjoy “The Game,” you’ll want to know as little as possible.

'Operation Finale' (2018)

If you’re looking for a spy thriller this week that is less Tom Cruise perched on top of an airplane and is instead grounded in real history, then you’ll want to check out “Operation Finale.” Directed by Chris Weltz, it’s a historical thriller that explores a 1960s operation to bring a German World War II officer to justice. That mission is easy to get invested in, and while the 2018 movie does run a little long at two hours, it’s still a compelling watch with a strong cast.

In 1960s Argentina, a group of Israeli agents believes they may have finally identified SS officer Adolf Eichmann (Ben Kingsley), one of the key perpetrators of the Holocaust. Determined to bring him to justice, these Mossad agents must infiltrate his inner circle and then find a way to capture him so they can bring him to Israel to stand trial for his war crimes. Their leader is Peter Malkin (Oscar Isaac), a man deeply haunted by the past.
