What is dedicated IP?

Dedicated IP gives you access to an IP address only you can use. Regular VPN IP addresses are shared between users, and can therefore be blacklisted or trigger CAPTCHA requests.

Each time you connect to a VPN, your IP address changes, but with Dedicated IP, you're using the same IP address each time you connect.

Only you have access to the IP address and traffic appears more consistent. This can be useful for websites that require consistent identification, such as online banking.

Security risks associated with shared IP address usage are also reduced. It's unlikely that a fellow VPN user would be caught doing something illegal while using a shared IP address, but it isn't impossible. The exclusivity of Dedicated IP removes this risk.

Surfshark allows for unlimited device protection and this is also the case for Dedicated IP. You can use the same IP address on as many devices as you like.

You can only select a Dedicated IP address for one location, so it's worth ensuring you'll make effective use of the feature.

Surfshark offers Dedicated IP for the following 20 locations worldwide:

  • US (New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Las Vegas, San Jose, Denver)
  • Canada (Toronto)
  • Brazil (São Paulo)
  • UK (London)
  • Netherlands (Amsterdam)
  • Germany (Frankfurt)
  • France (Paris)
  • Italy (Milan)
  • Poland (Warsaw)
  • Turkey (Istanbul)
  • South Africa (Johannesburg)
  • Japan (Tokyo)
  • Singapore (Singapore)
  • Hong Kong (Hong Kong)
  • Australia (Sydney)

Surfshark recently upgraded its number Dedicated IPs from 13 to 20. This brought the number of locations closer to its competitors.

Dedicated IP can be purchased as an optional add-on with any Surfshark plan for $3.75 per month. To purchase, log into your Surfshark account, select "Dedicated IP" then "Upgrade." Choose your location and pay.

You can only buy one Dedicated IP per Surfshark account and it's covered by Surfshark's 30-day money-back guarantee.

Surfshark's Dedicated IP is available on Linux, Windows, Android, iOS, Mac, Apple TV, and its browser extensions.

Comparing Surfshark's Dedicated IP with its competitors

A handful of leading VPN providers also offer a form of Dedicated IP – at varying price points. Dedicated IP is notably absent from Proton VPN's plan, while ExpressVPN says it does Dedicated IP "differently."
