Even as a physical book fan, this Kindle Colorsoft is calling my name — especially at its lowest ever price

I love buying physical books, especially the fancy ones that look nice on a shelf and show off how you're not just a phone addict who spends their days watching TikTok. But actually reading them isn't always practical, especially if you want to keep them in good condition. That's where e-readers like the Kindle Colorsoft come in.

The Kindle Colorsoft is a full-color e-reader from Amazon, letting you load up on books to read whenever you're not admiring that hardback copy of your favorite novel. It just so happens that this Kindle is now back to its lowest ever price in the Amazon Spring Sale. That means you can pick up a Kindle Colorsoft (16GB) for just $169 at Amazon. That's 32% off the normal price, and a total saving of $80.

Kindle Colorsoft: was $249 now $169 at Amazon

Enjoy all your favorite ebooks in full color, thanks to Amazon's Kindle Colorsoft. With $80 off the normal price, and no ads cluttering up the system, it's one of the best ways to enjoy Amazon's ebook library — whether you buy solo titles or subscribe to Kindle Unlimited.

If you've been sick of having to use boring black and white e-reader screens, then the Kindle Colorsoft might be the best Kindle for you. It packs in a sharp 7-inch full-color display and offers a comfortable design that helps you read all your favorite titles on the go.

Plus, being part of the Amazon ecosystem gives it full access to the Kindle library. That includes any ebooks you've purchased from the Kindle Store, ot the $12 a month Kindle Unlimited subscription. It sounds pricey, but it gives you unlimited access to the millions of ebooks in Kindle's library — which could save a bunch of money if you read a lot.

Other helpful features include an 8-week battery life, IPX8 water resistance, 16GB of storage and a crisp paper-like display. None of the glossy, smooth touchscreen displays you get on tablets and smartphones. There's no wireless charging, though. If you want that you'll have to upgrade to the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, which is currently on sale for $229.

One thing you do need to be aware of is that sideloading third-party ebooks (those not purchased from the Kindle store) is partially broken. You can still load those files onto the Colorsoft and read them as normal, but the actual cover page won't display correctly. So instead of fancy, colorful artwork, you get a page with the title and the author's name. As one Tom's Guide writer put it, it makes your ebooks look like "boring PDF files."

The power button is also situated on the side, which means you might accidentally hit it while you're reading. No, we're not sure why it's not on the top either, but that's the design Amazon has been sticking with. At least you know to try to avoid pressing it unintentionally.
