8. Performance

Of course, pictures only tell a part of the story. Our lab staff subjected the Toshiba Tecra A8 and M7 to a barrage of tests to see just how the Tecra line stacks up.

The following provides our lab testing results for the Tecra A8 and M7 notebooks. The tests we subjected the Tecras to include: 3DMark05 (graphics processor speed), PCMark05 (CPU, memory and disk drive speed), and MobileMark 2005 (performance and battery life when running multitasking office applications).

Not surprisingly, with both notebooks sporting Intel 945GM North Bridge chips with Intel GMA 950 graphics processors, 3DMark05 scores were essentially the same.

The CPU scores for the A8 and M7 are identical. We would expect this to be the case, given that the notebooks have the same Intel Core Duo T2400 CPU (1.83 GHz, 2 MB L2 Cache, FSB667).

Both the A8 and M7 have the same amount of memory with the same specification: 533 MHz DDR2. The difference between the scores is not significant.
