2. The PC Halfling: The ThinkPad G40

IBM has touted the ThinkPad G40 as a notebook with the look and feel of a ThinkPad notebook, but for the cost of a desktop PC. It has managed this feat by replacing the worth-its-weight-in-gold mobile CPU with a significantly cheaper desktop version. Of course, the standard processor gives off more heat than its mobile cousin, so the cooling system has to be expanded accordingly. As this high level of power loss will suck normal batteries dry, the device comes equipped with a battery boasting a hefty 8.8 Ah in order to keep battery rundown times reasonable. As we had expected, the battery and the cooling system render the ThinkPad G40 bigger and heavier than other notebooks.

So it wasn't exactly designed with road and corridor warriors in mind.

However, if you use a portable PC that remains plugged into an outlet most of the time, the G40 will cover most of your needs.
