9. Benchmarks Under Windows XP

In order to give you an extensive and balanced picture of the performance capabilities of the two processors (or platforms), we used a combination of the following synthetic and application benchmarks:

Drivers and Software
Graphics Driver ATI 6.13.10.6025 (English) // Nvidia 6.13.10.3230
DirectX Version: 8.1 (4.08.01.0810)
OS Windows XP Pro, Build 2600 SP1 (English)
Benchmarks and Settings
SiSoftware Sandra 2003 CPU MultiMedia / CPU Arithmetic / Memory Bandwidth Benchmark
PCMark 2002 Pro Pack - Build 100
CPU and Memory Tests
POV-Ray for Windows Version 3.5/ Chess2 640x480 AA:0.3
Lame Version 3.92
32 bit DOS-Prompt, 178 MB Wave File, 44100 Hz
3D Mark 2001SE Version 1.1 - Build 340 - Patch Build 330/ Default Benchmark
Quake III Arena Patch V1.16
640x480 - 16 bit / 1024 x 768 - 32 bit / 1280 x 1024 - 32 bit
Timedemo, demo001
command line = +set cd_nocd 1 +set s_initsound 0
Graphics detail = Normal
Sysmark 2002 Version 1.0

The pure low-level CPU performance was measured with CPU-dependent benchmarks such as Sisoft Sandra 2003, PC Mark 2002, Raytracer POV-Ray and the MP3 encoder Lame. In order to see how the power-saving technology Improved Enhanced Speedstep affects performance, these benchmarks were also conducted with various settings in the power scheme of the operating system. Measurements taken with the notebooks plugged in are indicated in the diagrams with the abbreviation 'AC;' and 'DC' indicates that the notebooks ran on battery power. The power schemes used are found on the Y-axis.
