1. A New Notebook Kid On The Block: The Averatec 5110HX

ratec already presented a persuasive offer with its first model, the ultra-portable 3150P .
With its latest product, the 5110HX, the manufacturer again offers an interesting, technologically-innovative and yet keenly priced mobile product in line with its corporate philosophy.
5110HX's case, innovative means that it's a notebook with Intel's Centrino mobile technology; thus the processor (Pentium M 1.3 GHz), chipset (855GM) and WLAN module (Pro/WLAN 2100 802.11b) are all part of "Intel Inside." Also, like all Pentium M processors, the Pentium M model in the 5110HX uses Enhanced Speedstep energy-saving technology.

Working points of the various Pentium M models
This technology enables the processor to control various working points automatically and thus adapt its power input and consumption dynamically according to requirements.
The graphics core integrated in the chipset's memory controller hub is responsible for graphics processing. Thus, there is no dedicated graphics chip or any extra video memory. The graphics subsystem borrows memory from the system if needed (maximum 64 MB). As already shown in previous reviews , this shared memory technology, called Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT) in the marketing jargon, is better than its reputation. Users will not be treated to any 3D wonders with this technology, but the solution is every bit suited to office applications and small battles fought during the lunch hour.
